Staying for one week at the home of Julie Warenski-Erickson and Curt Erickson,
I am photographing Julie in the workshop creating a magnificent dagger and sheath,
and fully engraving and carving the pieces.

Here is a picture of one of the steps in the process of displaying in detail her
process of the "Basket Weave" gold inlay technique, with a picture of the finished
section on the nickel silver sheath.

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

p.s. These pictures are as shot and have not been corrected in any way
so my apologies for their "rough" appearance...

David, it's really nice to be able to finally see the basket weave "in process", because it's one of my favorite designs - and no one does it quite llike Julie.

Best,

Bob

David, I really like the way you showed the wire, stretching out from the pattern, long before the final finishing. It's quite an inside view, particularly when one compares the "before and after".

Actually,Bob, in the book I shall be showing this engraving process
in detail through at least 5 different progressive steps.
The wire ends sticking out after the gold has been hammered in
have never ever been shown before....

EXCELLENT David. I had wondered how the basket weave was done. Looking forward to the book!

wow! This is going to be a very useful book for a lot of people.
It's now officially been a year since I was supposed to get your Dellana book, unfortunately I'm still waiting- no fault of yours of course David, the delivery man must be busy! Can't wait to check it out. This Julie book is going to be great, I hope you'll hang on to a copy for me :)

Maybe the guy who picked it up for you one year ago could not part with it? Hmmm.... :)

Another great book in the making my friend....hard to have to wait for these to be published ya know. ;)

The quality of her work is impressive! Clean lines even at this magnification. I'm a photographer and used to see all kind of defects pop out in macro shots. :)

I am back home after 7 exciting days of photography at Julie's home.
I did all the documentation of her making a beautiful art dagger
and of the whole process of engraving and carving both knife and
nickel silver sheath.

Now come some of months of putting all this together in the book.

Going through the pictures I realize the this will be a surprising and
never-before-attempted kind of book...

I'll post teasers from time to time.... :)

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

looking forward to it David!

Long been a fan of Julie's work. Looking forward to seeing more within this thread and the book once it is available.

This does, indeed, sound like quite a different project than those that have gone before it. I'm really looking forward to the outcome, whetting my appetite on some of those teasers you will be showing!

Here are what will quite probably be the Title pages that
open Julie's book...

All the best,

I remember this dagger well, and I seem to recall Steven Seagal holding/handling/admiring it, too.

More people have asked me about this one than any other one that Julie has made - which isn't many, rare as hen's teeth.

Perfect for the opener, IMHO.

Best,

Bob

Here are two more pages from my forthcoming book on Julie Wanenski-Erickson.
This time from the section displaying Curt Erickson's amazing art knives, that
were carved, engraved and inlaid by Julie...

Many art daggers in this book, made by Buster Warenski, Curt Erickson, Julie as
well as others have handles made of gem quality minerals. I therefore decided
to add detailed information about these stones (the colored texts) whenever
such knives were displayed.

All the best,
David Darom
