Working on Julie's book...

Thanks, Marcel, Bob, Joss, Coop, Peter and Calhoon, yes, this book will be
a truly wonderful display of art knives and knife making related techniques!

I myself cannot wait to hold a printed copy in my hands... Early 2013 is like tomorrow...

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

The beading visual tutorial is gratifying and anticlimactic all in one.

It's always been SUCH a mystery to me (and others?) The Cat's out of the Bag. ;)

David, I am really going to enjoy this book in particular. Thank you.

Jim

amazing stuff- I like the pictures showing hands doing work. That, to me, elevates your books above all else. Well, that, and everything else about them.

Even though "the cat's out of the bag", nonetheless it takes skill and what would seem to be a lot of time to complete the beading as Julie so eloquently does!

This will undoubtedly be one of my favorite David Darom books.

Gives me something to look forward to.:D

I have been in a devastated state of mind for 2 months over the loss of the love of my life.
My brain was totally paralyzed and I neglected getting back to work on my books.

Then out of the blue I received several high quality pictures of Buster and Julie Warenski's
extraordinary "Gem of The Orient" knife - the only missing piece to complete Julie's book.
I sat up all night, created the final full page illustration from Hiro Soga's pictures and
closed the book for print...

Now I am half back to half normal...

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

David, a wondrous piece, this one. So happy to see that a superb image of it will be available in your publication on Julie. Very much looking forward to it's issuance!

Best wishes for the holidays,

Bob

Wow, spectacular works of art! I've got 3 of your books and looking forward to this one.

Here is Curt Erickson's latest amazing creation.
I got Eric Eggly's amazing images just in time to create
this page for Julie's book....

Here is the detailed description of this art dagger
as written for the book:

“Imperial Ring Hilt Dagger”, 2012
This dagger features a wasp shaped blade of made from Rob Thomas shark tooth
patterned stainless steel Damascus. Fittings are a combination of hot blued gunmetal
and polished stainless steel.
Handle is premium black-Jade gemstone that is deeply colored with a very high-grade polish.
The knife features a sculpted eight pedal pommel with the center insert of polished
stainless steel. In the stainless steel is a 1k Moissanite stone, which protrudes just past
the pommel. Moissanite is a mineral that was first discovered in
fragments of the meteorite at Diablo Canyon or Meteor Crater in Arizona.
It was named in honor of its discoverer, Nobel Prize winner Dr. Ferdinand Henri Moissan.
At first, he mistakenly identified the crystals as diamonds, but in 1904 he found that
they are silicon carbide. Moissanite grown in laboratories is now being cut as gemstones
and they are used as diamond simulants. It brings to the jeweler’s table a similar index
of refraction and better than twice the fire of diamonds, but is only slightly less
expensive due to the difficulty in growing nearly colorless crystals. Moissanite is
causing quite a stir in the jewelry markets.

The sculpted Guard and pommel contain 24k gold and platinum inlays highlighted by
French gray engraving. The hilt ring is made of polished stainless steel with 1k of pave
diamonds inlaid around the ring. The dagger also has a stainless steel ring attached to
the pomme set with 1k of paved diamonds. All engraving and inlay work done by Julie.
Blade length 10 1/2” (267 mm), overall length 16 1/2” (419 mm).

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

you CANNOT keep a good man down.

Here is one more "special" technique credited to Buster and Julie.
This is a design that Julie, Buster and Warren came up with to do
exclusively on Warren Osborne’s folders.

It is the carved and pierced Mother-of-Pearl handle inlays over
inlays of a different material (gold, Black-lip pearl, etc).

All the best and A HAPPY NEW YEAR!
David

What a gorgeous, wonderful cover, David.

I've always REALLY loved that big dagger on the right side of the cover, the one Steven Seagal was caught fondling at the Nordic Show years ago. What a piece!

Best,

Bob

This is a most beautiful thread. David You've created a masterpiece. I,d love to purchase a copy.

Thanks, Bruce!

This is what my collection of books on Modern Custom Knives
and Knifemaking looks like for 2013.... :)

A great set of reference books, picture books, coffee table books, however anyone chooses to use them. For me, they are for reference - and the magnificent images, of course!

Great to see this pic with all of them together, David,

Best,

Bob

Last week I pulled the 'World of Art Knives' out of the shelf to rearrange some things. Before I placed it back I opened it briefly...

...thirty minutes later I had to force myself to put it down, because I'd lost work time. It lured me in like a captivating siren. Really!

Julie must be REAL pleased now.

Coop

Far into the future, David, your works will reverberate.

Thanks my friend.

Even though I am literally familiar with every pixel in my books, I too open
one very so often and go through it page by page wondering how on earth
could I have put all of this together, sitting alone at home in Jerusalem.

All together, just under 2000 pages... :)

All the best,
