I've been meaning to start working with larger knives and decided to finally bite the bullet and try one.

9" blade
5.5" handle
1095 with a rockin Hamon

haven't decided on a handle yet - I'm thinking a small SS Bolster dovetailed with some nice wood..... thoughts anyone?

Clip is not sharpened, I had planned to sharpen it but the Hamon dies about 3/4 inch from the back end of the clip, so I would be sharpening unhardened steel (not this cowboy dangit) still I think it's turning out beautifully

Personally I have found that the older I get the less use I find for larger knives. I especially prefer to carry smaller knives when hunting or hiking.

That being said, there is just something about big knives that I absolutely LOVE. This one looks great. I love the looks of it and sharpened swedge or not, it looks like it would be tons of fun to play with. Those hamons look great on larger knives.

As far as handle suggestions, anything natural. I like most wood and horn or antler would really make this knife pop. Maybe sheep horn with stainless bolster?

Very nice, please post pictures of the finished knife.

Nice blade. I would go ahead and sharpen the clip. You may be surprised how hard that "soft" steel is.It will get little wear at the base of the clip anyway. How did you do the hamon? It seems a bit high on the bevel, but sure looks good.
