I work the grill and meat is my thing. Beside the conventional kitchen knives I work with, I am looking for a great looking well made knife for when I go catering.
Blade should be minimum 8".
Any suggestions?

I consider the Becker BK5 the best grill knife ever. Give it some Micarta (or other custom) handles, and it looks great, and cuts great as well.

There is no mistaking it as a manly cooking knife when you look at it.

Good luck :).

How about a 14" Old Hickory butchers knife? Its like a grillin' machete. Only $15 and you can customize it to your liking.

Something like this?

There are some other good threads about the BK5 in the becker subforum, but I don't have time to go dig for the photo that I'm thinking of right now. There is one over there somewhere that has custom wood handles and a polished blade, it looks pretty sweet.

Here is the thread where they pass it around, and do all sorts of tests and reviews on the same blade. You might find it interesting.

What kind of budget?

There are great knifemakers here that'll make you beautiful custom carving blades for the same price as a high-end factory blade.

Boker Gaucho Knife.

Man I have been wanting one of these for a while. I can never find one in stock, that isn't ridiculously priced. Its a really great looking knife, but too pricey for 440A :grumpy:
The only times I can find someone with one, they want $80 or more

Picture is from AG Russell's site, hope he doesn't mind.

with 3-4 hundred dollars, go over to the knifemakers exchange, and click on fixed blades. find a maker you like, and send him an e-mail. you can get a full blown custom with really nice options for that price.

You are right it ould look GREAT!! But this price for 440A steel is way to high.
I'd like to stay in the 3/4 hundred. Keep shooting, I did not find anything yet
