I was curious, Ive been thinking of making some kitchen knives for presents in 1/16" or 3/32" but Im prety concerned about dog leg warping during heat treat..Do most of you guys just do all your grinding post heat treat with this stuff? Seems like it would be the best way to me..Correct me if Im wrong please :D

I started the post heat treating grinding with thin kitchen and fillet knives and now do that for all my folders. Frank

If you have a grinder post heat treat is the way to go. I do it for almost all of my blades for a few reasons.

Yes. It is a PITA if hand finishing, but mere warpage is not your only worry if you quench a super thin blade with the bevels already ground in. COMPLETE DESTRUCTION is a possibiity. :D

I started grinding all of my thin steel post heat treat and its been great. My finishing time has been cut in half. Things go more smoothly for me. Just gotta keep sharp new belts and a water bucket handy. Grind bare handed to get a feel for temp. If that thumb gets warm, dunk it. I use some dish soap in the water to help with flash rust.

Another tip is to clamp your flexible knife to a piece of wood or something flat to keep it straight when you apply pressure to the grinder.

There was a tip about leaving an extra stub of steel at the tip of the knife so that when you grind that area, it's much less likely to overheat.
