Hey fellas,

Relocating from my house with attached garage/workshop to a condo in Alexandria, VA.

Do you guys know of any type of place I would rent or use a workshop space in that area?

I feel for you man, coming down to Nova after being use to a big old garage workshop would be tough. I don't have an answer for you, but you could check out the techshop in crystal city. They seem to give you access to a bunch of awesome equipment, but membership isn't that cheap at 175 a month. If you forge, there is an awesome public forge in Arlington, va. Anyway, if you make knives now, when you get settled shoot me a pm, there a few cool dudes making steel dust in the shadow of the nations capital.

There's some large industrial areas outside Alexandra. I'd just take a drive, look around, and talk to folks. I've seen a lot of buildings where a shop could be established, and possibly at a fairly low cost. I can't tell you exactly where they are, I'm usually lost when I'm in that area.:D

When I first started out, I rented a garage owned by an elderly lady for $100. a month. She was glad to get it, and I was grateful for the space. So if you have any elderly folks in your area who have a garage, might be worth your time to talk to them.

Also check out the mini-warehouse rentals at industrial parks. Many offer 20X40 units with power and lights. Some have climate control, too. You will have to ask if you can put your shop in one, but some allow small business work and hobby use.

Thanks for the advice, all.
Moving around is a big pain, but I guess we gotta do what we gotta do.

@Tradhunter, I'll def try to shoot you a message when I hit town. It would be cool to meet a few people who do the same thing for once. I've become somewhat of an oddball on my block for making pointy things here in northern NJ.

I feel for you, too, Man. I couldn't give up my workshop without a struggle. I'm in the burbs in Reston, so I'm stuck in the basement workshop with all the attendant issues related to dust control and noise.

There used to be a membership-based workshop in Vienna that had a full set of woodworking equipment. You paid a monthly membership and then a few bucks per hour to use it. You could even reserve time on specific pieces of equipment. Great great place. Unfortunately, it went bankrupt a few years back (taking a few hours of my pre-paid time with them!). I miss it...

Yea the prospect of having to lose my perfectly setup, paid for garage for a condo is... kinda sad.

If an amazing job prospect pops up in my area within the next few months, I may be able to get out of this whole mess.
Here's to keeping your fingers crossed...
