World Cup Rugby anyone?

England won and they deserved it. The match was unspectacular, many individual mistakes on both sides, more on the french side. I hoped for a good game but didn't happen, maybe the second demi-final will be better.

was that a more exciting game for you Flava?

I think the Boks have it in them to make the wheels come off that sweet chariot. :D

May the best team win.

Definitely a good game, the SA team was very good at exploiting the Argentinian play, it was "wait, run and score" :D
I think they'll win the final, unless they try to play in force against England... always a mistake.

Can't wait for this Saturday.

I'll be wearing my green and gold for support. Of course, everyone here in Canada wont know what the hell it is and will probably just think I'm wearing an ugly forest green sweater :)

Haven't seen a bit of it as I only get basic, basic cable (no ESPN, etc) but am rooting for SA. I played 3 and 1/2 years at Appalachian State University (91-95) in Boone, NC. I took a semester off when my Dad died. We had a fall and spring schedule. It was/is a club sport and we only had a player/coach. I played Flanker. I work for the university now and still play in the annual Alumni match (old boys vs. the youguns). Our last match was a couple of weeks ago. Old boys won thanks to dominate pack play. I'm @6" & 225, I got to play Flanker about half the match then we beefed up and I moved into the back line. I thoroughly enjoyed tackling those itty bitty backs:D

GregB... make sure you mess their hair up a little too, as you smack 'em on the back of their pretty boy heads!

I had a dream last night that SA won the final 10-12. Just registering it here before the final so we can all either wonder at my clairvoyance or laugh at my stupid dreams.......

I had a dream also.
The Saffers matched England in the forwards and their backs shredded the Pommie backs
The England forwards put on a stink and got sorted out by the men from the high Veldt.
The score was 37-0 and they say history never repeats.

And see to it their jerseys get a little dirty would you please?

Going to be a good Final. The Bokkes are looking good, but England is no slouch of a club.

Congrats to the Boks! It was 15-6.

While the final itself wasn't that exciting, the Boks played great rugby and fully deserved their second World Cup win.

I slept through the game but it seems like it was a hard-core defensive grind. Congratulations to South Africa. Of course there are so many SA expats here in West Oz now I won't have any trouble finding a few people to congratulate (the last SA Oz test held here in WA at Subiaco felt like a home game for the Bokkies).

Good to see the Aussie connection in the win also - our ex-coach serving as a technical consultant to the SA team an it was an Aussie line judge that disallowed the England try:D.

As you can see he was out by a mile...............

Yeah many SA expats here too. Smart buggers who contribute a lot. Africas loss, our gain.

The Boks did a great job, even without scoring tries in this match, they played consistently well. That's something the Wallabies and All Blacks did not do regardless of world rankings. I'm glad the Boks won, atleast it was a southern hemisphere country that won, and one of the three major players.
I think THAT is the ONLY thing that has made our (Wallabies and All Blacks) early shock losses somewhat bearable.

The Boks have bragging rights for the next 4 years and good for them, I fully support them!!

Next world cup will be held here in New Zealand. I hope we can get the same level of enthusiasm here as we had for this one until we lost. Let me tell you the environment here has been very unpleasant since the All Black's loss. Without rugby Kiwis don't know who or what they are.

We're going to have to suck it up and get the sand out of our XXX soon if we are to put on a good World Cup event like the French did.
Afterall, the All Blacks are still the number 1 ranking team and likely to remain so.

Its great the Boks won but man oh man,the most boring World cup final ever!

Oh yes! Will rugby becomes as boring as soccer is? This way to play has yet killed the french flair with the help of the worst coach we have ever got.

dantzk.

Apparently there are some rule changes afoot - most of the countries signed off on them during the world cup. Less emphasis on forward play and more running which won't please the purists of course.

I've heard somes allusions about but don't know what it could be. Could this new rules change the current strategy used by the main teams? For now it seems to be: the forward line plays and the back line is there to give them back the ball by long shoots. Boring.

I did a bummer friday, the Sandton office staff was to wear their colours. I pitched in England colours. The other 39 staff were in Boks colours. I eat lunch in the car park.

Every second person was walking round Sandton in Boks colours saturday morning. Our office didn't do any work from Friday teatime on where coffee was replaced by Charles Glass' Corrsel (Castle) beer.

Whilst the beer companies had their acts together the suppliers of KGB tablets weren't quite up to the epidemic of "Bubalous" this morning.

Our Nigerian delegation was supposed to fly out this morning, for some reason the presentation isn't ready and the staff are ill.

Here's an explanation of the rules. It's a bit boring to start but once he plays vision to demonstrate his points it starts to make sense.

I especially like the idea that anyone who comes in from on-side and holds their feet can play the ball - this will make the tackled player release the ball quickly, and away from his body. It will mean less pile-ups but will reward good forward play/rucking. They've been using this rule in Australia in the second tier comp and it apparently works very well.

I'm all for taking the subjectivity out of the refereeing in any sport.

It's a bit of a political hot-potato though. The northern hemisphere countries sound like they'll resist it. They will see it as attempt by the southern hemisphere nations to shape the game to suit their running style. Seems they just want to bore each other to death rather than play a running game, which is what Rugby was originally meant to be.

The '95 world finals when the Boks took the All Blacks was one of the absolute finest matches. Full go on high octain all the way.

Although there was too much kicking, the Boks still won this time. It got them to where they needed to go against the greatly improved and motivated Lions.
