I couldn't find the previous thread devoted to this series, mods please merge if possible with that thread.

I picked up World War Z and the Zombie Survival Guide this weekend. Almost done the Guide, well put together book. Humor (very tongue in cheek and very dark), frightening (the history of outbreaks is great) and informative :D (I am kidding). This guy really did a great job, and makes you stop and think about the "survival" books that are out there. I have World War Z at work right now, and have been reading bits and pieces of it. I wish I would have picked up this series earlier.

Great series. World War Z is an excellent read, and downright spooky at times. It goes from the disturbingly realistic (such as the opening account of the Chinese outbreak and the description of why modern high-tech military hardware fails in the face of a zombie onslaught) to the surreal (aged blind Hiroshima survivor clobbering the undead in the mountains of Japan). Looking forward to a film adaptation.

All the best,

- Mike

I HIGHLY recommend tracking down the audiobook version of World War Z. The written oral history format of the book works much better as an audiobook than traditional fiction sometimes does. Just people telling their stories. Quite creepy at times.

Funny, I just read the two of those last week based on recommendations from a Fark comment thread. Very well done!

I've also heard rumors of a movie. If they do it, I hope they do it well and don't make some sort of "super hero" main character that they follow.

I've read zombie survival guide and it was fun to read. Still haven't picked up world war z yet. I'm currently reading the zombie comic, "The Walking Dead", awesome book.

I was reading the Walking Dead, which IMHO refers to the survivors and the world they have to live in now. Stopped getting it because it turned into a soap opera. Last I read, they were still in the prison. I really enjoyed the series.

Except for Shaun of the Dead and Land of the Dead, I am not a zombie movie/genre fan.

loved it although he tends to fall onto stereotypes:

most interviews are in the us even though it was overrun, almost none from israel and none from cuba, considering that they survived unscatted they should've had most of the survivors (wanna see cuba in the movie)

england and russia are very cliche, queen on one side and vodca on the other.

besides these niggles a read it in one sitting, well done, highly recommendable

The survival guide was very funny and lighthearted, WWZ is downright scary. not just for the zombies.

I bought the ZSG from recomendations form here and I really enjoyed it.I bought WWZ and I have read it through 3-4 times.Great, great read. The battle under Paris I read for the first time in my hammock at night while hiking. That was a mistake.I really loved the format of the many points of view.
I loved the idea so much I started writing my own zombie story.I'm using the WWZ style zombies (no running ect).I'm not much of an author so it's slow going but you bet I'll post it here when it's done.

I loved WWZ but really like the WALKING DEAD. In TWD the zombies are more like a horrible force of nature but the real terror comes from other people.

They are not in the prison any more and the author sure does not mind killing off main characters. Only 3 left and one is cracking up.They manage to leave on a cliff hanger every issue.

They just rereleased the first issue and I sent one to a buddy.

I just picked up issue #52 from my local comic book store, can't wait to read it. #51 has got to be one of my favorites.

I had no idea they redid #1, must pick it up!

New cover as well. Another even better post apocalyptic read is DMZ by
Brian Wood. It takes place about 5 months in the future where the US is split between
libertarian militias(yee haw) and remnants of the current government but NY is no mans land with a wall of mines around it. The main character is a reporter in the DMZ zone (NY city). It is much cooler than the Walking Dead.

Not trying to beat a dead horse, I am almost done this. I bet I could finish it in one night, but I gotta work. Anyway, I just finished reading the first battle against the zombies during the war, and the section about training the K9 units. When the movie comes out, I can't wait to see that first battle. Docudrama footage, memories style scene, whatever. The beginning of the battle, the brass playing Iron Maiden to psych everone. It was really interesting that the author stated, some countries used bugles, some the bagpipes, to call zombies in, but the South Africans banged their assegai against their rifles, you can visualize a line full, calling zack in. The K9 section was kind of sad, but I guess thats what you feel, when a golden retriever was one of your assorted babysitters as a kid (old Sunny). I almost fell out of my chair when I read that they were using miniature dogs, like dachsunds etc. Those cute terriers etc, were originally bred for hunting rats underground.

You'll have to excuse me, but this book is one of the most gripping I've read in a long time.
