It took me 25 years, but I managed to wear out a Buck 301 stockman I bought at an army PX in 1970. I was serving in the army engineers and that pocket knife got used on construction sites in the U.S., Germany, England, Libya at the old Wheelus Air Force base in Pre-Gadafi times. Then it went on to serve in the machine shop until the mid 1990's. By that time the main clip blade and sheepsfoot blade where worn down to toothpicks, springs were worn out tot he point a 4 year old coulee open the knife.

I basically wore out my first SAK, but it was more that I sharpened it down to the point where the point was too exposed. Being one of my first knives, I wasn't much good at sharpening yet. I've retired a few other knives, or passed them along after buying new replacements, but none were really worn past the point of use.

At this point, I'd never wear out a single knife simply because I have so many to choose from. Normal knife use divided among a few dozen, give or take, means little actual wear for each knife.

I forgot, I also wore out a Swiss Army knife. After many years of use the spring broke.

As a kid, my Dad frequently took my Case Barlow to work with him and used a grinding wheel to sharpen it. Over a period of years, it was worn out and unsafe to carry unless you don't mind the point poking you from time to time with the knife closed.

Knives don't wear out easily, but you can break them (blades, springs, scales and so forth).

Does this qualifies ?

It still cuts but the spring is dead, this knife is, I believe more than 50 years old.
It was already used when I got it in 1976, it's one of my first folders.
And one of the few I didn't loose.

When was the last time you completely wore out a knife, if ever? The question was posed in the book I’m reading (referring to all material possessions), and it piqued my interest. I’ve never worn out a knife before, ever.

I only lost or broken knifes!
