Worried about the #92 Talon.

That title is deceptive i am not all that worried it is just that i was taken in by all the good reviews of the Case Swayback Jack,so in the end i bit the bullet and went ahead and ordered one, after the two weeks or so it took to arrive i soon realised it was not the knife for me. So the little worry i have is has it happened again? Now i know the #92 is comfortable in the hand, being a single blade the Talon is lighter and the blade is a bit longer,so what is there to worry about?

Sometimes a perfectly good - even amazingly beautiful - knife just doesn't click with me for one reason or another. Often I can't even verbalize why it doesn't. But whatever the reason, we don't click. Usually I let it go to someone else who will hopefully give it the time and use it deserves. It's even happened with knives I really like, but yet for some inexplicable reason I don't end up carrying or using like I thought I would.

I imagine the talon would be a great knife, it is such an individual decision though, you'll have no problem reselling though if you decide you don't like it. I have a GEC #73 in the most beautiful walnut wood scales that cost a bit of money for me, I hardly ever carry it and I don't know why, possibly that it is just a fraction heavier than other #73s, and it is just this that makes the differences.

The Postman delivering it to the wrong address.....:eek:

Here's a very poor groupie of some Wharncliffes (the rain is tipping down) for you to mull/agonize over. I do sympathize, I've bought knives that have not lived up to expectation. (some a lot costlier than a SBJ) But, there are knives that have been a fine surprise too.

Viper Osage, Talon Micarta, Hound's Tooth Bone, SBJ stainless Bermuda Green and Northwoods Northfolk Calico Bone.
Thanks, Will

I don't possibly see how you could regret purchasing the 92 talon once you give it a chance.
I fell in love with my 47 Viper and now it competes for pocket time with my 92.
Such a sharp sharp edge and point. Great profile.
Mine is in Che Chen rosewood and looks fantastic as well

If I didn't already own so damn many Vipers I'd be all over the 92. Looks like an awesome knife.

I didn't think that I would like the Talon, but after seeing it in person I had to have one.
I like my Viper, but when I want to travel a little lighter the Talon is the ticket.
I agree with Markesharp, I like the warncliff on the Viper and the spearpoint on the Talon

Just curious...seeing that the handle shapes of the Viper and Talon are different - how do the ergonomics stack up between them?

I went with the green jigged and I think it fits the knife nicely. It's a smallish knife - svelte, with a delicate tip. I think it's bordering on a dress knife. It will carry nicely any time I need to dress up a bit. Compared to my GEC 42, it's downright dainty.

I ordered another Northfield today and depending on how I like it, I'll either send it or this down the road.

Good question, the Viper is definately a chunkier knife and held pulling toward me or away works great.
I have ten swaybacks with the warncliff blade and I consider it a versital knife.
On the other hand, the Talon with its unique handle shape works very well.
The talon is a really cool, sleek mid sized knife.
Sometimes it comes down to whether I am wearing jeans, casual or dress slacks as to what I carry.

Are those the Chechen Rosewood scales? How are you finding them? Durability and stability wise?

Yes they are Chechen Rosewood. Rosewood holds up great and the fretboards and bridges of some of my guitars have Rosewood on them. I think they will darken with use and time, but I like it as an alternative to Ebony astatically.

Thanks for the replies, you have calmed me down, just a few points Arizona sorry i did not make it clear, i am awaiting delivery ( followimg on USP Tracking ) great fun seeing all the places it goes before it gets to me, it usually takes between 8 and 30 days specially if the revenue over here get their hands on it.
willgoy, polymerhead, Marksharp and N.E.Tim thank you for the pictures, now i have to buy at least two more, certainly the spearpoint in rosewood and very likely one of those acrylic models but i can not help thinking back to the acrylic handled knives i had as a boy and how they would fade and crack, but i guess GEC use better quality acrylic these days.
