Worried about the #92 Talon.

Ah ok sorry about that. It was 0452 AM when I read and responded to your post the first time, so I'll blame it on being fuzzy headed hehe.

I didn't realize you were overseas. Now I can see how it's become a long, circuitous trek on it's way to you. Leave it up to government if you really want something messed up. Hope it arrives soon! :)

Thanks for the replies, you have calmed me down, just a few points Arizona sorry i did not make it clear, i am awaiting delivery ( followimg on USP Tracking ) great fun seeing all the places it goes before it gets to me, it usually takes between 8 and 30 days specially if the revenue over here get their hands on it.
willgoy, polymerhead, Marksharp and N.E.Tim thank you for the pictures, now i have to buy at least two more, certainly the spearpoint in rosewood and very likely one of those acrylic models but i can not help thinking back to the acrylic handled knives i had as a boy and how they would fade and crack, but i guess GEC use better quality acrylic these days.

The knives you had as a boy were probably not acrylic handled. The handle material was probably Celluloid, a much different material. The modern acrylic used by GEC should not shrink, warp or crack. I doubt that it would fade. It might get a little scuffed up and dull looking from normal use. I have heard that it can be freshened up with a light buffing.

oldmanrunning,
The Talon is one of those folders that You have to see in person to appreciate it.
G.E.C. did a GREAT job on the size and shape. I like the spearpoint, if I didn't already
have a few warncliff blades I would have leaned toward the Talon with the warncliff blade.
I think that when Your's arrives You will like it alot.

I could not take it any more so i have just pulled the trigger on an Acrylic Talon from a UK seller, should be in my mitts on Friday ...

The only thing stopping me from getting a #92 Spearpoint Talon in moss green bone is that I don't think it would kick my #92 Ebony Eureka Jack out of my pocket. I bought my Eureka Jack on impulse & was not sure how I'd like it. The handle shape was different & it was bigger than I normally carry. Well it felt good in my hand & has ended up kicking a lot of my other traditionals out of my carry rotation.

I'm still tempted by that moss green bone though...

Hi guys i just could not wait so i bought this little beauty from a UK supplier, first impressions are good, it will be interesting to compare the Goldenrod covers version that is inbound as i have never owned what you might call a fun covers knife before, i went for this lava acrylic as i am not to sure about OD Green micarta, anyhoo as this #92 does not ride well in my watch pocket it will go in my left front pocket with my handkerchief so scratches should not be much of an issue.
So far it looks like $113 well spent. HAR HAR...

That's really cool OMR! I've never given GEC acrylics a thought, but that's actually pretty cool looking. Hopefully your other 92 will arrive soon though also. :)

Thanks AR i had previously thought of acrylics as being like the knives i had as a boy but as rma100 pointed out they were probably celluloid, but this GEC acrylic looks a lot tougher, i dont know how it will stand up to scratching and i dont really want to find out, that is why i generally get the Tidioute version as they seem to be more of a hard work knife, not that i use my knives hard much more now i am an old geezer food prep, cutting down boxes, cutting paracord and such is about it although i fancy trying to whittle but i doubt my fingers could take the blood loss. When the Goldenrod #92 gets here it will go in my pocket for EDC and the Acrylic one become Sunday best only, of course we must not forget i have a Smooth Buckthorn Bone #22 on its way and i forsee a tustle between it and the #92 for pocket time. It is all decisions,decisions.LOL...

oldmanrunning,
Great photos of Your Lava acrylic.
The Talon with Goldenrod scales has a nice look also, You won't be disapointed for a second.
G.E.C. does a wonderful job on their jigging.

Nice Lava talon. I think you'll like the goldenrod, I sure like mine.

Thank you dpm5, nice picture and that goldenrod certainly looks more workmanlike than the lava, how long did it take for the patina to form ?

It was purchased in early June and I've carried it most every day through the summer. The spring matches the blade color, and really stands out sandwiched between the brass liners.

Hi dpm5, i do not normaly care for patina but your #92 looks just right, i am assuming it formed naturally ie just give the blade a wipe with a dry cloth after slicing tomatoes etc to get moisture off.

Yes, normal knife tasks including slicing a few apples. It's my only GEC, for now; blade and spring look the same as the CV Case knives I alternate with, except for their stainless springs:
