worst thing you ever lost

I'm still bummed about losing my first-gen Spyderco Delica way back when. I had it clipped to my pants one day, went to work and when I returned home I found it gone. I must have searched my car 5 times hoping that it had fell out and got lost in some nook or cranny, but no such luck.

The new ones just ain't the same either. The handles are thinner and somehow feel "cheaper" to me, and the volcano grip pattern is different (and not any better IMO). At the time it was the most expensive knife that I had ever owned, and I remember being amazed at the fact that I could shave hair with it right out of the box.

I had an SOG Gentleman's folder stolen from my car.
The worst was when my entire gun safe was unbolted and stolen. "only" 4 guns in it but I still lose sleep over that. And one of them was my deceased father's.

My first ever knife. An all steel trapper, with carbon steel blades and the large clip blade broke off.I think it was a case, but was to young to know for sure. It had been my grandfathers. I taught myself to whittle with it. I noticed it was missing the day I got to move into my own room and quit sharing one with my brother, think I was maybe 11 years old. Makes me kind of sick to think about it.

I was going through a bunch of trash in my garage. My idea was to put the crap in a big cardboard box and tape it shut so I could carry it out easier. Well tape automatically calls for a knife. I grabbed my G 10 Spyderco Harpy and cut some tape. Somehow I was distracted and put the Harpy in the box. I sealed the box up and put it out for the trash. I thought I had put the harpy on a shelf in my laundry room. Next day I go looking for it and it ain't there. Never to be seen again!!!!

I've lost two knives. 1 SAK super tinker which "walked off" on a job site. I put it down instead of back in my sheath and 30 minutes later it was gone :(. 1 original SAK manager v1.1 (the one with the sheepsfoot blade and a pen instead of toothpick). Second one turned out well because I purchased a manager v1.0 with a toothpick, which I prefer.

Nice Santa Fe stoneworks BM purdue with malachite handles. Man, I loved that thing, it felt perfect in my hand.

I lost a little Swiss Army Classic with my name engraved on it. At least the bozo who found it will be reminded that it is not his every time he uses it and that it really belongs to “Rob”. Somehow this makes me feel better.

A ARC LS first run was stolen out of my car recently. That was a bummer. Lost a stuffed bear dressed as a paratrooper while on vacation in Italy as a child. My brother had given it to me when he was home on leave a few months before.

I was 18 and wading across the Rio Grande. I heard something fall into the water, but figured it was my Bic... My first good knife. A bone handled Boker Canoe Knife. I guess I could have EIGHT of them in my pocket for the price of my current EDC, but I sure liked the knife then. I probably consumed the knifes worth of tequila that night. Young, dumb, but OH what fun!

If your loss was not blood, it is hard to beat jsun... I feel for you, man... but I know you gotta obie framelock to keep that serotonin flowin'.

For me it was a Gerber Paul knife. That was a great little folder.

Before you lost it, was the Lochsa all that I have hoped it would be. That knife is at the top of my "want it real bad but haven't got the cash" list?

I lost a Spyderco Delica my brother gave me and I still feel absolutely sick about it.

When he gave it to me, it was the most expensive knife he owned. I just mentioned that I liked it and soon after that he gave it to me. He didn't have that much money to spend at the time (more like none at all) but he still gave me that knife just because I mentioned that I liked it... that fact alone makes it a really painful loss.

I never received it, it went AWOL after I bought it from the seller. (Long story and NO fault of the seller). I'm more upset that a beautifully designed and crafted piece may be in the hands of someone who does not appreciate it. It was an early clipless Lochsa :(

So I can't tell you if it was all that you would havce hoped it to be. My feeling is that yes, it is and more.

Archie & Morgoth412 - thanks for the sympathy guys.

When I was 8 my dad gave me a Victorinox SAK with eight functions. He bought in Switzerland and that was very special for me, because I was hoping he would bring me a SAK, and he did. He knew I had been drooling over multi-bladed pocket knives for a long time. I was so happy that I slept with the thing in my hand for many weeks. Then, like an idiot, I started carrying it to school. I never showed it to anyone, I was just happy knowing it was in my pocket, touching it every now and then (you know the feeling, it starts early). I kept it spotless and hardly dared use it on anything. Watching those blades slide open and shut was bliss.

Then it was gone. I don't know where.

I cried myself to sleep for many, many nights. Not just for losing my Precious; I was afraid my dad would be so disappointed. Getting a knife from your dad is something special, almost religious, and I had lost it.

I kept it a secret. Somehow I managed to scrape together enough money (a FORTUNE it seemed) to go and buy a new one, just like the other one I had lost. It took months, but the following fishing season I had it. I used it for years, and never told my dad. He still doesn't know.

The replacement was not the same as the original. It was a fake. It worked, but it wasn't THE knife given by my dad.

It still hurts. Seriously.

Thanks for listening. I know you understand.
