Worst traits of your favorite brands?

Cold steel:
Some funky names, not being actual knife manufacturers, somewhat brash marketing (although i do enjoy their testing videos, kinda entertaining)

ZT: no longer the hard use no nonsense knives they used to make, getting fancier as time goes by which isn't good in their case.

CRKT: overpriced

SOG: tacticool

Spyderco : bad warranty on disassembly

Medford : most too thick to cut stuff, ridiculous warranty.

Microtech: rip off artists, laughable warranty (gonna get me a Natrix, with an N)

Emerson: boring knives that all seem to look the same if viewing a few meters away. Known for lousy QC. Basic materials for what they charge. Titanium for a liner lock is debatable.
Their motto of being the "Best Hard Use knives" or some models like their karambits being the hardest use karambits out there is simply not true and are ridiculous statements

Boker: Plus line are hit or miss.
Magnum line are trash. Questionable QC.

Chris Reeve: doubt that S35VN needs to be hardened to that low of a HRC to be chip resistant.

Gerber: known to have bad QC on alot of their products

New CRK HT protocol on my large 21, currently wearing 3 chips.
Two small ones about 1/3 the way down from the tip:

And one larger one near the heel of the blade:

I still love my CRK and I will continue to carry and use it, though I am not exactly "easy" on a knife.

Easy on a knife or not thats some BS. My sebenza gets chips in the blade like that CRK gonna be hearing from me. I have batoned through a 2×4 with my Griptillian and the blade looked better than that afterwards.

I don't have a complaint against specific brands because it seems to me that too many companies do this. 'Upgrade' a knife model by putting it out in a new steel, while dropping the old version. I bought the older version because I liked the blade steel's performance, it was a good value for the money, and it was easy to maintain or resharpen in the field. Now the new model costs twice as much and is a complete p.i.t.a. to sharpen unless I'm at home with all my sharpening gear.

I'd say chips that size are acceptable and to be expected in any knife steel that comes into contact with glass/concrete/steel.

I've never battoned a soft pine 2×4 with my CRK's but I'm pretty sure they wouldn't chip cutting wood.

I am sure that your 2x4 offers less resistance than hitting the steel frame of a pallet rack.
Seems like being "easy" on a knife is a thing, eh?
Now why would you put a knife to steel concrete or glass?

I assure you it wasn't intentional. That being said, not all of us cut with pillows surrounding us.

Didn't you Just buy a sebenza after saying that they don't fit yur hand well?

Anyway my grippy isnt perfect after doing that. It now has permanent blade play. Probably need to send it back to Benchmade but the blade is in good condition still. Gonna have to put the Small sebenza through its paces now after all. Im curious now. Hell it might just surprise me enough to make me carry it along with the 247. Im happy i decided to buy one in case anyone wants to jump my s*** for saying what i did.

You didn't plan on letting it cut anything or leave the house anyway. Can't chip an edge if it isn't used.

I never said it wasnt going to get used. I said i doubt it will be carried. I also stated i will use it as a whittler.

I'm a plumber and I use my knives for work. Stuff I cut with my knives isn't always in ideal locations.

I do own an olfa knife but it's a rare occasion it gets used.

Oh ok. Most of my cutting is plastic straps twine and cardboard and wires. Have not had a wire chip a blade yet but if it ever did i wouldnt be surprised in that circumstance.

Oh and I will be buying the large Sebby even though I dont like the feel. Girlyfriend gave me the ok once the carbonfiber inlay version is in stock at Blade hq. Thats a just so i can say i own one knife that will be used for when im working on the ford ☺

Striders...lock rock and lock stick...did I mention lock rock?

Benchmade - Because despite being awesome, it's so hard to fall in love at first sight
Emerson - too many models, not enough runs of the older designs
Spyderco - love them in pictures, and disappointed by their lack of beefiness when I handle them.
ZT - Limited Editions starting to be the norm

Spyderco - They don't use the wire clip enough.

Benchmade - F&F is completely unreliable and yet they cost more than others.

Cold Steel - They insist on using the blade as a billboard.

Zero Tolerance - They didn't give me a free 0777.

Kizer - 1/2 height blade grinds.

GEC - Make some more 92s damnit!

Lionsteel - Nothing. Keep up the good work.

Microtech - Blatant theft and truly awful customer service.

Kershaw - Use of unnecessary steel liners.

WE - I can't figure out where to buy the damned things until they're sold out. Then they tease me on Instagram with models no longer or not yet available.

Stedemon - 78.9lbs folders. Seriously guys, I like your designs, but I'm not carrying a brick in my pocket.

Protech - No blue fish scale Monaco.

I can't believe you wear pants that nice to work!
