Worth Buying? Blur S30V

The Blurs I have didn't come with excessive threadlocker. They had enough to keep the screws from slipping, but they were easy enough to overcome with appropriate sized Torx drivers.

It sounds like whatever seller you bought from sold you a used, damaged, and previously returned Blur. If the screws are stripped and the knife isn't opening right, it's entirely possible the previous owner had disassembled it and didn't properly put it back together (or messed something up before/during re-assembly). I would definitely return it to the seller.

I wouldn't use a customer-returned (and possibly damaged) sample as a basis to judge the knife. Return that one that you received, and have them exchange it for one that is really new from the factory (or purchase from another reputable dealer).

I think you're right about all of the above, I bought it from Amazon so who knows how closely they inspect returned merchandise before selling it again. I had a gift card that paid for 2/3 of it so that's why I bought from them, I usually get knives from BladeHQ or other knife-specific dealers. I photographed the product and then started the Amazon return process for defective products but asked for a refund and not a replacement.

Overall, I wasn't overly enthused with knife, I think I might order one of the special run tanto BDZ-1 models from KershawGuy instead, with him I know I'll get a fair deal on a solid product.

The BDZ-1 Blurs are nice. I'm not the biggest tanto fan, but the plain edge tanto is one that Blur fans have been anticipating for a long time!

If you're up for a little extra spend, you can also pick up one of the smoke green handled Blurs (also a special run) and make yourself one of these... ;)

Sorry about your experience. To be fair, Amazon doesn't really give a crap about the little things like we do. Sounds like you got a horrible specimen. Mine was just about perfect in every way when I got it.

If you're gonna pull the trigger on the tanto, I know you'll like that one for sure. The stonewash especially. It looks great in person. Like the stonewash on the 0566.

Personally, I like the Blur more than the Piston or Knockout. I have about the same affinity for the Knockout and Piston. The Piston is larger and can be a bit more comfortable in hand. The Knockout is surprisingly thin and carries very comfortably in pocket.

i have the BDZ version, and i love it. I wish i could find more info about the steel... but either way, it cuts great, sharpens nicely, and the blade profile works better than alot of people give it credit for (frankly, i can't understand the Tanto hate, but whatever..)

That is beautiful.

I cant speak to the BDZ but I have had the s30v blur for about 6 months. It was the sharpest s30v blade out of the box that I got, compared to benchmade and spyderco. I love the thin profile in a larger knife, it carries well and after about 6 months of light use it still has the factory edge. Although I do strop the blade after a good use, I can still shave hair. If I had to gripe about something it would be the clip, when in tip down a lot of the knife sits outside the pocket. Id love to see them put a decent deeper carry clip on it.

I'm considering a Knockout or Piston instead...thoughts?

Knockout all the way. In fact, I just posted these pics in another thread. You get a nice, wide 3 and 1/4" blade of tested and true 14C28N, deep carry clip, lightweight aluminum handles, innovative sub-frame lock and Speedsafe AO. I love my Knockout and it makes a great EDC. Only reason I haven't carried it lately is because it's getting a little TLC.
