Here is the other matching Gemsbok Hunter knife, with my friend's name and birthdate engraved on its blade:

Ill have to order me a Randall one of these days.
I highly suggest using the dealer that I used for this pair of matching Model 16 Divers, unless you want to order direct, in which case the knife will be ready for you in 2012.

Randall is delaying deliveries, possibly due to production problems. I ordered a Model 14 through Nordic Knives (their R14-K ss) on 07MAY06. It WAS due 31JAN08 but is now not expected until APR08. I assume that the Model 16-7 ordered direct from Randall 09MAY06 and tentatively scheduled for delivery 20JAN11 will be delayed three (or more) months as well. NOTE: These Randalls were ordered before I discovered Busse Combat and I suspect that I'll not be happy with the "finger-grooved" handles but would prefer the single finger grip style handles that Ken got on his beautiful pair of 16's, (or "Border Patrol" style). Outstanding shots as always, Doc, and a very generous return gesture to your friend. Pete (PIGmsayre)

If you prefer a different handle style, such as Border Patrol or Single Finger Grip, I suggest that you contact Nordic Knives *now* to see if it can be changed. Randall states that the specs can be changed up until three months prior to when it is scheduled to ship, but given the delay, which is almost three months, you're certainly at a threshold.

Hey, check out the other Randall I got late last month, snagged off of eBay from a Randall dealer:

It is a Model 14 "Attack" with 7.5-inch stainless steel blade, Forward Curved Nickel Silver Double hilt (oblong), and Single Finger Grip Torquoise/Black Micarta handle.

Nice Looking knives. Good luck with the new piece. I ordered two Randall's about 2 years ago through a dealer, and I got notice yesterday from UPS that I should receive them this Thursday. A matching set, Model #1 and #2, with 8" blades, stag grips. I'll post some photos when they come in. Thanks for your photos. I agree, Busse is the new Randall's. I would carry a Badger Attack Or NO into battle anyday. TC

Those are some beautiful looking knives .I need to look into his work.

They are awesome knives for sure, but you need the patience of a saint to wait for one. Oh well I guess all good things are worth waiting for.

Great looking Randall's there! They were my first love.... beautiful fit and finish. I love the fact that you can "customize" the knife with your choice of options and order it just the way you like it. Most of them have been relegated to "safe-queen" status nowdays, as I have new toys to play with. That being said... the value of Randalls has probably increased twice as much as the value of stock market in recent years, thus helping me justify my addiction to quality steel. :D

Beautiful knives, and as always, stunning photography. I owned a Randall survival knife, briefly. Superb quality, but a bit too nice to be a true user, IMHO.

Really awesome divers! I have a #1-7 on the way (be here in 2 years :) ) ...here are my others:

lunde,
I contacted Nordic about changing the "C" style sheath to black instead of the standard brown but they (Nordic) state the the order has been sent to Randall and is locked in as is. If I decide to keep it, I'll pick up a black "C". However, I do have plenty of time to change the handle style of the 16-7 coming in 2011. The versatility of the single finger grip that you'd gotten on your pair of "Diver's" is attractive in that it would allow a variety of blade position grips with the single finger "divot" indicating both blade and edge direction simply by feel. Pete

Getting the sheath you want is a simple matter of sending the knife back to Randall to have one made. The cost is about $35, if memory serves, and the turn-around time is two or three weeks. The sheath of the #1-7" Stag that my dad gave to me looked bad, so I sent the knife back for a new sheath. I then cleaned up the original sheath, and it looks much better now. I guess I have two sheaths for that Randall now.

I guess that I don't understand why Randall doesn't have sheaths for their models in stock. They forge their knives to order, but unless it is a true custom w/ odd dimensions or a seldom ordered model, they should have a few of all the sheath variants around and if I prefer a particular type or color, just pick it off the shelf and pack it w/ my blade when it is ready to ship. Too simple and logical? Is each sheath custom fit to the particular knife it's sold with? Pete

This is what RMK says about sheaths: http://www.randallknives.com/faq.php#11

Why must I send my knife to you when all I need is a new sheath?
Each sheath is shaped to fit each model, and models have varied over the years. Plus, because each hand-made knife is unique we need to have the knife to ensure a proper fit of the keeper strap.

Have you asked Nordic why they cannot make such a simple change to your knife order? Is it because it is too close to the delivery date?

BTW, I specified for my #2-8" (Stainless, Forward Curved Nickel Silver Double hilt, Ironwood handle, Smooth Nickel Silver collar, Nickel Silver butt cap) a black sheath, and there was a $15 surcharge. I ordered it on 11/08/2006, and it projected ship date is 07/21/2011.
