Would appreciate your opinions regarding a new logo.

This is something I whipped up as a suggestion. I think a stylized "P" of some sort and your name would look nice, just keep it simple. Maybe hold a logo contest of some sort in the general forum and explain what you're looking for, winner gets a small camp knife or something :D

I added it to one of your blades for effect if that's ok :)

Who's this Partom guy?

: )

Just kidding, bro.

I, too, like the look of your current one. Always thought it was classy.

Very clean I like it.

Even without a logo, I often recognize your work instantly.

The whole point of a logo, is to have people know you made it.

Your current logo just plain works.

That is "neat" but I can't read it. I would keep your current logo, or do one that is easily legible.

Some of my favorite logos have no art work, or anything. I don't know why that is. I like your logo.

Laconio comes to mind, especially because he can fit it on the spine of a knife.

P. PATTON or PATTON would work fine too. As long as I know it is yours.

I'm not saying I don't like logo's with a design, or with a graphic.

Maybe just tweak your existing one a little bit so it is different. That way you can still use your old one to make your classic stuff but when you feel like something new or different you have got options :)

I am opposed to logos as a makers mark. Do as you have done, be proud of your work and put your name on it. How many threads appear here asking who made this knife because it is marked only by a logo or initials. Just my two cents.

100% right. And I love ambigrams! (Godel, Escher, and Bach would have loved them too!)
But your name is your claim to fame, and a small logo alongside is OK.

Phillip, this is one of the coolest logo I've ever seen in the knife business, just keep it. Knife enthousiasts will recognize a Patton even without a logo !

Stick with the way you are currently marking your knives.
If you are really, really enamored with the logo your friend made, use it on your business cards and stationary.

Your work is so clean it would be a real shame to clutter it up with a busy and confusing mark.

Cleaner and simpler is always better IMO. I like ornate knives, not ornate marks. I do not like either mark shown here.

That having been said, I cannot remember a single occasion where a maker's mark was dispositive - or even relevant - to my purchase decision.

I'd like to thank everyone for chipping in here. Although it wasn't the response I'd hoped for, better to find out now than after spending $200 something on a new stamp. ;)

I still need a new stamp, and a change would be nice. I'm thinking just my last name, in a simple font, which was my plan "B" in case plan "A" bombed, which it has. :(

The only problem I see with using just my last name is that I'm not the only Patton making knives.

Here's one of Rob Pattons knives showing his mark:

I'll have to use a different font of course. Hmm. Back to the drawing board...

Thanks again, everyone.

Redmasta, that is very nice, thanks for taking the time to do that. I may go with something similar, but leaving off the "HILLIP".

As simple as possible Phillip, the difficulty increases understanding what counts is the artwork, knives, i think ...
