Would like advice: Sebenza vs. SNG for new EDC

Have you considered the Hinderer XM18?Otherwise I would lean towards the Sebenza.

Given the choice of Seb , SnG or XM18... I would still take the SnG.

Xm18 is a darn good knife though , without a doubt one of the best semi-custom ( mid-tech whatever ) out there , but for my use , SnG CC.

I have other folders (Emersons for example) that have non-metal handle materials, but they all have a full metal liner inside the non-metal handles. Would the micarta side of the SNG/SMF handle be considered a weakness vs. the all Ti handles on the Sebenza or is the micarta just as strong? I have not seen a disassembled SNG but I would guess that the blade is "supported" in some way (pivot pin?) so that there is not too much force on the Micarta portion of the handle.

the sng and smf have a titanium slab on the lock side, and a g10 slab on the other.

no liner on the g10, and there is indeed a pivot screw.

g10 is very strong stuff. i doubt you will have any success breaking it, unless that is your intent.

morimotom, that answers my question about handle strength. I figured the
G10 must be pretty tough stuff. I know that those types of materials are pretty durable if hit with a hammer or run-over by a car, but I was unsure how they held up with tourque being applied through the knife blade. I guess Strider wouldn't use G10 if it wasn't suited for the task.

I like both knives, but personally I prefer the SNG. I like how the thumb studs give lateral support, I love finger choils (thanks to Spyderco) and I like the Hinderer lock bar stabilizer (though they don't really seem necessary, they give added security). I'd get the Sebenza only if I was concerned about non-knife friendly people.

I see people tossed the XM-18 into the mix, so my new order would be

1) XM-18
2) SnG
3) sebby

Again I own all three and love each in their own way. They are amoung my favorite knives and I know I am forced to rate them for you but this is just my opinion. In fact if you asked me in a month my order might have changed.... Try and get your hands on them before you buy one, it will come down to your personal tastes.

If the XM-18 it in the mix, here's another vote for the XM-18. I've played with all three knives and own the XM-18.

I'm not sure of this will help you? :D

So-Lo,

Thank You for those awsome pics and comparison of the knives. Those pics, along with all of the info in the above posts has brought me to my decision.

I have decided to purchase an SNG in the near future and a Large Sebenza sometime next year (I'll just have to quit wasting my extra $$ on guns).

Now I just need to decide new or used and which color:D.

Thanks to everyone for their help. I'll try to post pics ASAP after I find my new knife. -David.

Buying guns in never a waste my friend.:D I hope you like the SNG. I am in the process of buying one myself. I am getting a stonewash blade as I'm not that into the tiger stripes.

My next hard use knife will be a Yuna Hard of some sort. They are also a half ti, and other half g-10 frame lock. Tip up carry (the only carry I buy now), and..... ZDP. :D

If TKC gives it a go, you can bet your sweet bippy its gunna" be good un'! :D

Yuna Hard.... Take a look Click ME

Is the Zero Tolerance 300 series out of the question? They have some damn nice features. You get some of the Strider stuff like the Hinderer stop and similar titanium frame lock and g10 scales. You also get the speed safe and organic look of Ken Onion stuff. It's basically a Strider with speedsafe at about half the cost of the Sebenza or SNG.
