Would this annoy you?

So I just received this today from mass drop and it's virtually perfect for me. It is a Bestech Dolphin. Definitely a harder use solid folder that will see lots of use. Just what I was after.

However after some inspection I noticed this dark hairline scratch near the choil that I think is from the lock-bar insert rubbing against the blade.

This will be a user, but still, this mark annoys me every time I notice it.
Would you care about something like this?

Could it cause any problems later on with more ware and tear?

Let me know your thoughts.

Looking at a Hinderer I have with me ATM, it has that too but the design of the handle makes it impossible to see, unless I look through the space between the lock bar.

That knife has it's scale cut back further, so that's why it's so noticeable. It's from the detent ball not the insert on yours. Just as it is on mine.

I agree that it looks like an intentional part of the design. I can't know for sure, because I don't own that particular knife, but if it's brand new, I doubt that line would have already worn into the blade steel like that unintentionally.

absolutely normal... In some knives the ball is closer to the pivot, so the circle is not visible. I don't think it will affect the blade in long run.
But aesthetically only - it would bother me... (just a personal opinion)

How deep is the scratch? Also, I think on a user it would annoy me at first, but eventually I would get use it.

If you are right handed, you would not notice it in use, as that is on the hand side. In the days before they put washers between the blade and the liners, all knives had a lot of circular rub marks in this contact area. This mark would not annoy me on a user at all. Could that mark be from the detente ball that keeps the blade closed?

It's not a scratch, is the detent track, created by the detent ball. Judging by how dark the detent track is, you must have already broken the knife in, and it's probably crazy smooth already. They were not able to hide the detent track behind the scales. If you open up any of your other knives, you'll see the same exact line underneath the scales on all of them. Keep it, enjoy it!

I've seen a lot of knives that at some point in the pivoting of the blade the detent track and or hole is visible. Not my favorite design-wise, but like I said pretty common.

Awesome thanks everyone.

I did notice the detent track on other knives but they were less expensive ones so figured it was normal on lower end knives. Also they were hidden by the scales.

Actually Austonh, at that point I hadn't flipped it that much so I am relatively suprised it was there with such limited use. Especially as its brand new. But since the day is now at and end, i have flipped it continously. Such a smooth and fun folder to play with.

Anyway, thanks lads
I am happy it's normal and won't affect performance. I usually buy fixed but have recently getting into folders and obviously have a lot more to learn :p

It's the detent track. It's supposed to be there. It is shown because of the way the scales are designed. It's a user. Just use it.
