Would this annoy you?

...Definitely a harder use solid folder that will see lots of use. Just what I was after.

Then no. It's going to get more scratches when you put it through all this hard use you claim you are going to do, so why even think about that scratch?

Actually if you read closely and not jump to conclusions, I said it will get a lot of use. Not a lot of hard use (though if need be, it would). I was simply commenting on the function and design of it being built towards a hard user.

Also, stonewash hides scratches well. This mark is much more dense and abrupt than typical scratches.

It's definitely just the detent track, but it does look like they could have designed the knife with a less visible track...

OK. Whatever. Your "harder use solid folder that will see lots of use" has a "hairline scratch."

If that bothers you, that is fine. Send it back. You should be satisfied with your purchase. Customer is always right.

It wouldn't bother me, and that is what you asked. When I use knives, hard or not, they show signs of use. Maybe I'm doing it wrong.

Its more dense and abrupt because it is not a scratch. It is, as many have noted, the detent ball track.

And a stone wash finish hides something like that worse than other finishes.

Nope not doing it wrong, using knives causes scratches.

Good. I mean if it was a safe queen, and there is nothing wrong with safe queen, and it was scratched, and the "scratch" was not a result of the normal, proper, working functionality of the knife, I would be annoyed.

Like I have a fixed blade semi-safe queen, and it came scratched by the snap in a clumsily made leather sheath.

That annoyed me.

If I had the intention of having a semi-safe queen fixed and it came scratched because of a crap sheath, i'd definitely return it. Safe queens should come and be kept in mint condition.

I agree, if a brand new item that is mainly kept for safe keeping comes with a mark it is annoying. If I buy a folder for every day use and it has a hairline mark on the blade, it's just a "meh" event. Because the first time I use it to cut the wrapping off of bar stock it will be marked.

And that's why I prefer a satin or mirror finish. If they get scratched, and you are, for some reason, inclined to fix it, you easily can. Stonewash? Not so much, I have learned from using my knives.

But this one is not a safe queen or even a semi-safe queen, correct?

So I just received this today from mass drop and it's virtually perfect for me. It is a Bestech Dolphin. Definitely a harder use solid folder that will see lots of use. Just what I was after.

However after some inspection I noticed this dark hairline scratch near the choil that I think is from the lock-bar insert rubbing against the blade.

This will be a user, but still, this mark annoys me every time I notice it.
Would you care about something like this?

Could it cause any problems later on with more ware and tear?

Let me know your thoughts.

Lol dude!

That happens on any knife that has a lockbar with a ball bearing detent in it. That line is from the bb rubbing against the side of the tang. On some knives the scales cover it so you can’t really see it unless you disassemble the knife.

So if opening and closing your knife is in your use plan then you will have to live with it.

But it isn’t a defect or a flaw, don’t worry about it.

Agreed. That was really cool. I'm way too computer-dumb to even think about that!
Pretty easy to teach yourself stuff like that, there's loads of stuff on YouTube etc ;) Just have to invest the time to learn it :D

What these guys all said: normal detent track. Nothing to fret over. I looked through some of my folders to find one that was really obvious. I present the Lansky X9. The actual detent hole is hidden by the scale on your knife, but you can clearly see it on the Lansky.

Medford Praetorian Ti develops the same track. The deployment on mine actually became smoother as the grove developed and it has not affected function at all.

I am NOT going to say that it is the detent ball track and perfectly normal; what I will say is that you have a very knice knife there and I would wish you to use it a very long time - all in in good health!
