Would this be inappropriate to ask of a maker?

Thanks for all the feedback guys. It's good to know what kind of options are out there.

The only one I wouldn't mark if asked would be a military knife, and even then I'd want the SOB to know who made it. Unless it's an unusual design I would probably only mark on the left side as near the gaurd as I can and with as small a stencil as I can. I don't like big maker's marks, I feel the knife design should speek for itself.

I spoke to my father, Daryl Hibben, and he said he does not mind leaving his trademark off of a knife if the customer requests it. Of course you take a large risk with the resale value lacking a trademark and my dad's trademark is not very large as it is, but it's your call.

I agree with Sandy, I wouldnt leave my Mark off but one thing I do upon request that has become very popular is Burn my mark in then I bead blast it to give it a satin finish. You can definatelly read the mark well but it doesnt jump out at ya like normal.

hey folks, good question.

as i am fairly new to this, i want to mark all of my knives, and havent yet been requested to leave my mark off. however i am not opposed to moving it or making it smaller. much thought would have to go into leaving it off altogether.

my question to your would be; why pay big bucks for a custom knive from a well known knifemaker and have the name removed?

would you buy a picasso without his name on it ?? probally not

but its your money and so i guess its up to you

reguards,

dave
