would this be practical?

...to make a completely new blade for a folder?

let's say that I found a knife that I love everything about, except the blade? sounds dumb, I know.

but if a slightly different shape, or different material would make this my perfect folder, how much trouble would it be to have a custom blade made?

impractical, or is this done more than I think it is?

Doesn't sound impractical at all. I'm sure it's done alot more then you think. As long as the dimensions of the blade are the same, thickness, width and length, I don't see why it couldn't be accomplished.

Go to google groups and talk to Alvin on rec.knives. Or search his posts. I think he uses alvinj@XX.com as his screenname/addresss. I've read about him making new blades for several slip-joint knives.

I wonder what I might expect to pay someone to make a 3.5" drop point blade in s30v for my Benchmade? ballpark even...
