Would this cheap katana even be considered functional?

Did anyone else notice the cracks in this tsuka (handle) and the quality of the wood?

Cheers

Eventually, some people will "criticize" most everyone right on out of here, and you'll end up with another forum where three or four guys sit around and all congratulate each other on how knowledgeable they are. There's already a sword forum like that, in case you were wondering. There's a few military sabre collectors and some stuff for sale, and tumbleweeds blowing through most everywhere else.
The man asked if it was "functional", as in, make light cuts. ANYTHING can fail, and does. Would you trust a cheap chinese machete to cut a watermelon? would you try it? Probably most would. This sword shown is no more dangerous than that.
Be aware of what you're doing.Nobody claimed to be a Nihonto expert. We didn't grow up in Japan and were adopted by the Tokagawa clan to be trained in the secret family arts, lol. We are, for the most part, "enthusiasts" and NOT Professional collectors. I'd like to state now that i'll continue to give my opinion, and do it freely, criticism ofr not, and i encourage others to do likewise. It's a sub-$100 peice of carbon steel, with a full tang. be careful. Can you have fun with it? Sure. but BE CAREFUL.
