Would a folder sell with clips on both sides sell?

They wouldn't need to be on the exact opposing sides, that is mirror each
other.

Ever wonder why nobody uses the nicknames, SpyderWeg or SpyderMil?

Peace,
smoke

NAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA Then I would have to remove both of them

I am working on a design with Darrel Ralph (who also hates clips) to make one that would be on both sides but an integral part of the knife that the user could "pop" out if he/she wishes. When the clip is "poped in" it would not even be noticed.

Now would that sell?

I agree with Bill & Gus, the first thing I do is remove the clip.

I still don't understand why the mfg.'s with removable clips on their knives don't send any "fill screws" in the box. Bill helped me out with a couple of ideas, thanks Bill, on replacements but it was a "real pain".

Hhmmm, looks like Bill needs that distemper booster shot again. Maybe Gus, too.

Smoke,

Not with the preliminary design I have in mind. I mean I guess you could break any clip if you wanted to but this one would be really hard to break as it does not connect the same way any other clip does.

On another note most clips on knives seem to be an after thought. Like they made the knife and then said "oh ya lets put a clip on it". Not mine, it will be an integral part of the knife. I love clips but not how they look. Darrel knows what I am talking about.

OK Mike, now that you have our curiousity peeked, when do we get to see this new collaboration?

Its just cabin fever. I'll get better in the spring.
I think Mike is right when he said most clips seem to be an afterthought. They look odd and feel odd to me.
The exception so far has been the Cheyenne auto. The clip on this knife looks intergrated, and designed with the knife.
It doesn't look at all bad, and doesn't bother the hand grip.

Bill,

Now your on the right track. Imagine, if you will, a similar clip shape to the on the Cheyenne which retracts by pushing down into the knife scales. It will then be virtually invisible.

I think you guys are on to something special with the design. (even I would like it). Smoke - I really did not mean to discourage you. A fully ambidextrous knife might prove to be a fruitful design. (Just make sure they are not to hard to remove and include the screw size so Bill, Jon and I can cap the holes

I find clips to be very useful. In fact, it is almost a prerequisite for a folder to have a clip before I purchase one, otherwise, it would be awkward to carry.

So, I ask why do some hate clips? Is it for aesthetic reasons?

I, also find clips very useful. When I carry knives without clips they tend to fall out of my pockets. I've lost several knives that way. Large folders without clips also tend to move around in my pockets, and can get positioned to where they are uncomfortable or easily seen. Whereas the clip-its do not fall out, and stay in one place making them, to me, easier to deploy(eh?) with less hassle.

Just my opinion. I have never owned a knife with a clip that did not feel better in my hand when I removed the clip. That is why I like Darrel's and Mike's design to be able to get what I consider a non-ergonomic clip out of the way would be pretty cool.

My clip fetish is also just a matter of personal preference. I'm just like Jon and Gus as I like the way knives feel without clips.
Jon is right in the suggestion that manufacturers should provide "fill screws" just to leave the owner with the OPTION of removing a clip and still have a finished-looking knife. It would cost a few cents.

No question that clips serve a purpose. They have been putting them on writing instruments for years

I have decided to start a new thread for my reply, as it seems to be a bit off topic here. The new thread is entitled "Why I Like Clips."
