Logic would state that the warranty would not be voided due to this, but few warranties make much sense. I bet it does void the warranty for this reason...picture the following scenario:
Fella buys knife and hates finish. He doesn't know anything about temper, heat treat, etc, and maybe he just finished watching American Ninja 4: The Annihilation and watched the American Ninja grind a perfectly heat treated a polished blade on a 30 grit bench grinder with 8 inch stone wheel! So, he attacks the knife with his grinder, the thing is destroyed, and the knife is shot. His defense? "I Was just removing the finish...sheesh."
The cool thing is warranties that make zero sense. For example, I sell a $3,000 racing bicycle to someone, and in the warranty it says all warranties are void if the bicycle is, among other things, used in competition or a race! That makes sense!
Generally any modification to a product will void a warranty, regardless of what it is. Now, that doesn't mean that the company won't uphold the warranty if something else happens to it.
