Would this void a warranty???

Hello,

There is a Kershaw knife that I am thinking about buying. The only problem is I don't like the etching that is on the blade. If I remove the etching and give the knife a satin finish, will this void the warranty??

Any comments appreciated. Thanks.

CUT it out!

I just got off of the phone with kershaw. Not only were they kind of snipy when I asked, but apparently it will void the warranty. The reason given was "because it is a collectors item"

Mark,
Thanks for the #

Logic would state that the warranty would not be voided due to this, but few warranties make much sense. I bet it does void the warranty for this reason...picture the following scenario:
Fella buys knife and hates finish. He doesn't know anything about temper, heat treat, etc, and maybe he just finished watching American Ninja 4: The Annihilation and watched the American Ninja grind a perfectly heat treated a polished blade on a 30 grit bench grinder with 8 inch stone wheel! So, he attacks the knife with his grinder, the thing is destroyed, and the knife is shot. His defense? "I Was just removing the finish...sheesh."
The cool thing is warranties that make zero sense. For example, I sell a $3,000 racing bicycle to someone, and in the warranty it says all warranties are void if the bicycle is, among other things, used in competition or a race! That makes sense!

Generally any modification to a product will void a warranty, regardless of what it is. Now, that doesn't mean that the company won't uphold the warranty if something else happens to it.

It might void the warranty because Kershaw sells seconds. They put x's through the etching to indicate that that it is a second and does not have any warranty with it. Just a possiable theory.

I clicked on your link and seen you have Kershaw Knives link there, after I posted my 1st reply!

I personaly have bad luck with Kershaw Service twice and will never buy a Kershaw again. Both times they were the high end made in USA knifes, not the ones they import and say Kershaw. This is IMHO and 2 cent's, not a slam on them, just I was not satified with the service dept. They lost my $.
