If you happen to have any old speakers that dont work or you can do without, just cut the front circle out and use the magnet from the the back of the speaker. Or you can get some bigger ones at harbor freight that are like 1" wide x 2" long x 1/2" thick that come it a pack of like 5 for a couple bucks. You can also get some biig stroong ones back in the welding section there as well. Or you can do as Don suggested and super glue one of those small ones to some sort of makeshift handle.

there is a strong rare earth magnet in old mechanical magnetic hard drive. however you don't want this magnet too strong, it's a pain to free your blade from these magnet.
Just go to HF and get one of their telescoping magnetic pick-up tools. That's what I use. It has a neodymium magnet on the end and extends to around three feet. As long as you don't hold it in the heat for too long then you won't have anything to worry about as far as burning or melting.
Also, neodymiums lose their magnetism when heated to high temps, so you'll want to keep it in the heat for the least amount of time possible, just long enough to determine whether it sticks or not.
Just buy a cheap welding magnet. Stick it to something metal (anvil, forge base, whatever), and brush the blade by it. Or, as suggested, buy a telescoping magnet.
I use a rare earth magnet, can't remember where I got it. Ordered several online, just google search, there pretty reasonable. I use the ones that look like a washer and used heavy tie wire through the hole to make a stand off to check the blade. I've used regular magnet pickups, but eventually they loose there magnetism with heat and time.
