Would you buy a knife at a gun show?

I have found several discontinued knives at or below what they were selling at when they were new at gun shows. Most of the gun shows I have been to have a lot of vendors that sell standard production knives a little higher than what you can find them online for, but you can haggle a bit. Occasionally they will have old stock of knives I have wanted for a while for really good prices, these are the ones I generally buy.

The shows I've been to tend to be a zoo of blatant counterfeits and garbage. I bought one from a custom maker and pick up something I like every now and then but I'm usually at the gun show for guns :D

You do know that it is a crime to attempt to purchase a gun if you are unworthy. Only a fool would try to buy a firearm at a show from a dealer or at a regular gun shop FFL dealer.

If you lie (or try to and the figure it out) on the 4473 it is, but to just plain get rejected it is not a crime. You can actually appeal a Do Not Proceed to the FBI (who run NICS) within I believe 7 days of it happening.

I looked this up and found this...Looks like if you are rejected for legitimate reasons, the appeal process isn't going to change anything. However, if your identity has been mistaken or you are in fact eligible and the records are wrong then you have a case for an appeal.

Yea that's right, the appeal isn't like an "aw pretty please with sugar on top I promise I'll be good" request, it's if something is wrong in the system. For example, if you were indicted on a felony charge you would be prohibited while under indictment, you go to trial and are acquitted then your rights are restored. Given that the government is, well the government, their records may not be kept current in a timely fashion.

There are plenty of cheap trash and counterfeits but there are also dealers I've known for almost 30 years who now have grown ups working with the family at the same tables I saw them as kids at 15 or twenty years ago. Knife and Gun shows used to be the way to get the knives you wanted before the days of Knifeworks and knife center or even the internet. There are real dealers there with real knives. If you choose the wrong knives from the wrong dealers it's your own fault as I see it. Some of the people are great folks who I've dealt with for 3o years. I might be a bit prejudiced as I used to sell knives at gun shows myself long ago.

They can be the best way to find hard to get knives, old stock, fill out your collection at speciality dealers for Case or Buck, or you can buy chrome plated plastic or pot metal blades from pakistan for the guys & girls that like that junk stuff.

It's all there if you look hard enough. I went over 25 years without missing the show that comes to the fairgrounds every 3 months. The last 3 years has been intermittent and I've missed some however several dealers I know are still going to the same tables in the same spots in the building I first saw them at 30 years ago.
