The last thread I posted got so technical that I didn't even know what I was reading, so this time I am going to make it simple for me,

"WOULD YOU BUY A MAD DOG KNIFE, YES OR NO, IF YES, WHICH ONE?

The knives price is not an option, nor are you allowed to make any changes to the knife. Lets see the result, be honest.

Hunting? Don't be a wise guy, what do you hunt with a knife?

Name it!

Absolutely not!! I am a cat person!!

Actually, I have a dozen or so of Mad Dog knives, and have yet to have a problem with any of them. Except for having to pry my Voodoo Child out of my eldest daughter's hand when I was leaving her place in Omaha. She now has one on order. Made specifically to fit her hand (the standard handle was a little big for her, so she sent MD some xerox views of her hand; MD will custom build a handle for anyone, without charge). Further, she has a ATAK2, a lab rat, and a minishrike she can use while waiting. While I was in Omaha, one of her co-workers admired my pATAK2 so much that I had to give her one (she is a nurse, and a working mother with two kids; she deserves the best, as does my daughter).

I carry my pATAK2 daily, in case I need to pry on a stuck automobile door to extricate someone, or do some other type of emergency prying. Of course, it serves very well for general cutting chores as well. I have an ATAK2 in every car also.

As far as hunting goes, about six months ago, there was a poster who claimed to hunt wild boar with his knife. He would wait until the dogs had the boar surrounded, then cut the boar's throat. As I recall, this was in general, viewed by the forum as somewhat extreme behavior.

I currently own a 3/16 Arizona Hunter, and a Pack Rat. I have a 9" Bayou Hunter on order.

While I have five (DSU2, PATAK2, Mako, AZ Hunter, Wild Thing), at this point I don't think I would buy another one. Given current prices I feel there are alternatives more appealing to me. Or then again, perhaps I have the essence of what MD has to offer and couldn't possibly improve upon the current mix.

Keep in mind that I have never owned a Mad Dog.....

Keep in mind the only test data I have is from the BladeForums testing and reviewing....

Keep in mind that you did say that it is an "as is" decision.....

No. Not a chance in hell.

Yes I would but would need to make more money.
Realistically the Mongoose/Wombat, Rat Series up to the PATAK. I wouldn't mind the axes or Saxon Sword for heavy use. However, as with any knife, if the knife isn't sharp or takes a good edge, it's gone. Handmade or machine, folder or fixed, it doesn't matter.

I am not at the river, so I will not speak about the river.

If I may ask...

What rational outcome do you expect to receive from this thread. The last thread clearly demonstrated that there are those who do, those who don't, those who will, and those who won't. Beyond that, what could this thread tell you. You have stated that you have one on order. Perfect, follow through with your initiative, take posession of your knife. Then, if you like, keep it, if you do not like it, sell it.

Further, if the details of the last thread were beyond you, then maybe you will not be able to discern the qualities and/or deficiencies of the knife you are commited to buy.

Lastly, reccomending that the members of the Forum 'be honest' only serves to call your own statements into question, since apart from humour, there is no sensible reason for the membership to lie, nor evidence of lying.

I would definitely buy a Mad Dog knife. I currently own three, ranging from the large Atak2 to the smaller Lab Rat. (Gotta love the names) I find that they hold an edge well and the handle fits like molded to my hand.

Nope, not at the prices they are but people will buy them anyway because they like them.

Hey I don't like traditional style folders but I sell them and people pay big bucks for them.

As a side note, a dealer is selling me his entire inventory over the next few months and it looks like I will be buying some Mad Dog knives.

Here is the part that sucks. Mad Dog's new warranty does not cover them. So if you buy a Mad Dog and sell it to someone else the warranty is VOID. My question is, WHY?

never again, i HAD 2...
BTW i think this thread leads to nothing as there are always people out there who likes a product and some who dont like the product. my 2 cents

The cost is prohibitive. I believe a person could purchase a blade that would offer close to similar performance and not have get a second job to afford it.

No, as they are.

Definite YES, if they were made of non-HC CPM-3V, with a screwed in handle into a full tang. I would buy TWO. I really like the design.

I can't think of a good reason to spend big bucks to buy a chrome plated knife with a glued-on rubber handle and a questionable heat treat when there are lots of better knives out there for less money.

Ain't nothing like a mad dog flame to warm up my computer in the mornin'.

Probably not, but I would trade for one. I have owned 3 and they were good knives. Haven't found one that was perfect for me yet though, but the 3/16 pATAK seems pretty close.
