If it's not rubbing the liners don't worry about it. My first ZT i got was 0350 that was off center to the point where it rubbed some. It bothered me a little at first but i got over it. Yours should be good to go.

I cannot give you an educated response, but that is the sort of thing that would drive me crazy. Is there any way you can take a precise measurement to make the determination? If not I would send it in if you have any doubts.

Instead of send it in for service, perhaps you could give the store a call and ask them to exchange it.
This way they can cherry pick a knife for you and you may get it back sooner than if you send it in for service.
I have to ask, how is that such a difficult decision that you needed to make a thread about it?

ya me too, I m just really obsessed with the current condition.

Ha.

What you're saying reminds me of myself. I got my first gun a few months back and worried obsessively about whether or not there were any defects down to the molecular level. I am about to get my first knife and I will likely perseverate in a similar fashion.

Send it in and put your mind at ease.

I just received a $650 Strider SMF today and it's about the same as yours in terms of being off centered. Neither sides are even close to touching and does not affect performance one bit. If I'm not worried about it I don't think you should be either. But if it really bugs you that much ask the vendor to do an exchange.

I doubt you will ever put your mind at ease if you are worried about the knife or gun down to the molecular level

All machined parts have tolerances. It's impossible to machine a bit of aluminum to a 3mm thinkness. Instead you have to machine it to 3 +-X mm. Sometimes the tolerances line up perfectly and you get a perfect specimen, other times they don't and slight variances in centering can appear. Nothing wrong with that, that's just tolerances.

In your case I think the black liner creates a Popsicle-illusion and it just looks off. Also the bevel seems a tad crooked. But I'd call that centered mate!

You're likely correct, I definitely get neurotic over my nice things. I do recognize that though, and hopefully that will help me move on and relax.

A. Return it for a centered one
B. Learn how to center it yourself
C. Send it in for service

There is no excuse for off-center blades...especially a ZT. Mine was off center when I received it...I took it apart and >10 minutes later it was centered and smooth.

ya I got an used blem 0561 before and its perfectly perfect-centered, and later another brand new but slightly off like this 0301 I received. Guess its not considered a problem by ZT.

My benchmade 810 came touching ever so slightly. given it has about 1.5 mm clearance on either side normally. I wasn't upset. It has zero effect on the performance of the blade. But if you will look at it every time and obsess over it, you had better send it in.

It has a liner on one side.. I just looked closer. Its almost perfectly centered. Like a mm at most off.

Looks off centered but it may be because there is a liner on one side so my eyes could be being tricked. It wouldn't bother me as long as it wasn't rubbing. Of course though if I were to choose between two blades, one centered and one off centered, I'd choose the centered blade. If it bugs you, send it in. ZT has a great warranty.

Wow, tough crowd. I can't tell if it's off centered. If you look closely the hand holding the knife is tilted, and the sides are too dark to see if it is touching.

I'm glad I'm not selling anything to you guys. Anybody who thinks the knife is so bad it needs to go back please don't ever ask to purchase any knives from me. If you need micrometers and magnifying devices to know if you are happy with a blade you are not the kind of person I'd ever want to do business of any kind with.

:)

some people are super annoyed by non-centered but non-rubbing blades.

I'm not in that camp. As long as the blade isn't rubbing the liners I don't care. I care more about how the blade feels when locked than I do about centering when closed.

I'm pretty sure that if I tried to sell any knives on here Id be strung up by my ankles for not listing all the defects properly.....because I probably can't see them. I've looked at listings and I'm pretty sure I'd have to make a blanket statement of "these are not NIB, they are used, carried, sharpened, left in a drawer, dusty, scratched, they are what they are, here are pictures, decide for yourself"......or ask specific questions and let me provide a specific answer.......just based off of how exacting some people are (not saying that's bad, but those people shouldn't be buying my knives anyway........and none are for sale..this was a hypothetical thought experiment).

Not rubbing not a problem people are ridiculous with this. Off center a bit has no effect on a knife what so ever. Keep it use it enjoy it. If your a collector and that's your thing and not perfectly center is a killer for you send it back. But I'm pretty sure zt is going to look at it and say there is nothing wrong with it.
