Hi, i live in Sweden and im carrying a knife at all times even tho its against the law due to the low risk of getting caught.

If i would get caught which is pretty hard if its hidden and im not bothering anyone or flashing my knife.
Then i would get a $205 - $1,250 fine and if im unlucky up to 6 months jail. (i guess higher fine+jail would be if it was more serious than just carrying a knife, not sure tho)

If i ever get caught i will be wearing a personal badge i use at work which allow me to use any tools and tell the police im on my way to work
and if they ask why im not leaving my knife at work ill tell them its expensive and i don't want it to get stolen. (cause of price of the knife and how much damage it could do at my work location in the wrong hands)

How about you?
Would you give up your EDC?

I would carry a knife, I don't do anything to bring unnecessary attention to myself nor break the law, well I stay out of trouble.

Yea thats my thought, ive never been searched in my whole life except when i enter my workplace (we have to get searched but i can bring a huge axe if i want due to my badge)
So there is a very tiny chance that i would ever get searched since i don't flip my knife open in public or anything like that, i keep it in my jacked hidden, im just a normal person walking around, why would i get searched? :P

If my concern was self-defense, I would carry something else. What sort of tools are used at your work place? A screw-driver, depending upon the design might work as well or better than a folder for self-defense. A chisel would be even better.

I actually do. Its not allowed to carry a one-handed locking knife withouth a "commonly accepted reason" (Camping, hiking etc). Without such a reason you are supposed to put your evil locking knife in a locked case or something.

I carry such a knife clipped to my pocket most days. At least a Leatherman is a always with me, and you can open the blade with one hand. But I think (hope) I could get away with that, because of the tool character of a Leatherman.

But its not a felony at least, just a misdemeanor. Still I could lose the knife and pay a hefty fine. But I try to stay out of trouble and places with lots of people anyway.

I'm actually trying to carry small fixed blades more often, since fixed blades up to 4.5" blade length (yes, four and a half inches) are allowed to carry without any reason at all. Doesn't make sense to me either, but thats what it is.

So you just said you don't break the law, but if it were illegal to carry a knife you would do it anyway. You realize that is a contradiction.

I would not carry a knife if it were illegal to do so. I don't really carry with self defense in mind. If I were concerned about self-defense I would get a permit and carry a gun.

What is the penalty difference between illegally carrying a knife and illegally carrying a pistol?

If you're going to break the law, why go half-assed?

This is why I live in the U.S.A. !

True dat. And regulations seem to vary VERY widely depending on which state/county/town you are in.
At least here its the same for the whole country.

There are very few places in the USA where the carrying of knives is unregulated.

That may be but you ARE allowed to carry a knife most places. If there is a limit to what knife you can carry in my area I am not aware of it. Most men around here carry a knife and it is socially accepted so I don't worry about getting in trouble. If I went to a big city I would be a little more concerned and might try to stay below a 3" blade.

Not true my friend.

Ohio is among those with regulation...

Cleveland Municipal Code 627.10 states:

“(a) No person shall knowingly carry, have in his possession or ready at hand any * * * knife having a blade two and one-half inches in length * * * while at or about a public place.

It's not Ohio it is the city of Cleveland. The Ohio revised code (ORC 2923.11) does not have the same regulations in fact they removed the automatic knife restriction. It has been nice talking with you and like any other conversation about the law we could go back and forth all day with the pros and cons. As for me I am finished because we are getting off track from the question the OP posted.

I have carried a knife since the 70's....and I have carried a "illegal" one since they came out with the LightFoot DA....
How they figure a auto knife is worse than a 'assisted' knife is beyond me....we also have laws that are stricter on double edge blades than single edge!! (Go figure)

I do and will continue to. When I go to work I'm ususally carrying my Spyderco Military and usually a larger fixed blade. I have my Gerber LMF 2 with me right now. Though it's not illegal but if it were to become illegal I would tell them to stick it where the sun doesn't shine. I feel like with all the gun laws being inforced that I should at least be able to continue to carry a decent sized knife.
