Would you carry an auto folder, if you legally could?

I would. If I had my way, I'd have a stag handled shotshell puller in my back pocket from back in the day when they were legal. I like some of the modern autos, but those old shotshell pullers really turn me on.

I totally want at least one nice antique and one nice modern auto.
There were little autos from the 19th century for women's sewing kits that were pretty cool. I like some 110 auto conversions.
The new Guns and ammo surplus yearly has a great photo of the WW2 Schrade M2 auto for paratroopers that looked like any other brown trapper style clip point folder but with a button and lock.

Of course I would love a classic Italian ivory handled stiletto auto with a swing guard.

I would carry an auto occasionally. Why not? It's a neat toy, like a Balisong. Why it's any more evil than any other folder is beyond me. Stupid laws just hurt the law themselves. I have a Gerber 06 auto that I'd use just like i use any other knife: For anything I walk can use a knife for.

Somehow walking down the street with one in my pocket now makes me a bad guy, although my Griptilian opens faster.

Yeah I don't really get it. I can carry a hammer in my pocket which will turn someones face into hamburger but I can't carry a 3" auto knife?

Maybe I'd throw a Microtech Halo into my ecd rotation, but I'd defiantely start carrying butterfly knives (balisongs). They're stronger, easy to open, and they're really freaking cool.

eh i dont know my current EDC is the Kershaw Leek which is a spring assisted
but i dont think id carry a full auto, Maybe an otf cause i really enjoy th action on them but besides that i cant really think of a good reason

I have never had an auto open in my pockets. And an auto is my most common EDC.
But I keep alot of hard stuff in my pockets, I've had the other stuff in my pocket clicking my mp3 player and turn it off(powerbutton is an up and down switch, not button).

Today, I would not buy, much less carry an auto, even if I could do so with 100% legality. Would you?

I did for years, in the form of an assisted opening knife, which was (for all intents and purposes) an auto-opener. Recently I figured I would carry a smaller, non-auto knife because the association of an automatic knife with a weapon is something I didn't want hanging over my head.

this is a great topic. Being a bit narrow minded occasionally, my first impression was "Of course, simply because I can" until the reality of function sets in. For a cool factor, you bet. I would be all over one. Unfortunately, I follow in the lines of function. Gimme a fixed blade any day. no moving parts, nothing to fail.

NO. I've owned auto Microtechs and never really cared much about carrying them. They are interesting knives but I don't see the need for one in my EDC rotation.

no need for one , when i was a young lad i would try to be cool and carry a stilletto but i find them useless now.

Maybe Heller will help to overturn these retarded bans, but even so, I see little point to the auto knives and I doubt I would ever shop for one.

If things are so dire that an immediate-deployment SD tool is needed, I much prefer an internal-hammer snub in the jacket pocket.

For everything else, the fixed blade is incomparably superior.

Somewhere, maybe only in my mind, automatics cross the line from pocketknife to weapon.

Not saying you, or anyone, should carry an automatic but I just don't see a weapon here:

No comment intended on the view the law would take.:D

I have had every style of MT auto and EDC'd them all. Cool factor aside, I'd rather carry a waved framelock of some sort.

I have had one open in a deep pocket. Very embarrasing to a teenager.

The blade profile and architecture of most autos are not really what I want for a knife. Same goes for Balis. There are a few custom autos that are sweet and user friendly but out of my league at the moment.

I think it's funny that it's the people who aren't interested in autos who always bring up that modern tacticals are as fast or faster. Who cares how fast they are? If you're looking for speed and convenience, get a fixed blade.

Which really illustrates how moronic the laws are. A fixed blade is much faster to deploy yet they are legal in most places.

I can carry autos :) but they are not my first choice for EDC. However, I fully understand the point of being a kid and drooling over an auto, because I've been there too :)
