I'm just looking for feedback on a new knife I am thinking about buying and what my fellow knife nuts think about using a knife under these circumstances?

If a knife were:

1. Your favorite pattern.
2. Your favorite Steel
3. Your favorite handle material.
4. Your favorite maker.

Price $100.00

Now the big dilema, the knife is 1 of a limited run of only 100 knives.

How many of you would actually carry and use it?

Do what I did with the Benchmade 31-01: get two, one for the safe and one for the pocket.

If it's a given that it would rise drastically in value, I would just keep it as a dress knife (unless it is too big). I've decided that any knife I buy will be used, so if I got a mint Scagel, I'd probably use it. (oh who am I kidding)

Ya, dress knife. Or if it's that valuable, I'd keep it for a while, sell it off and get me some users. ;)

Use it. Then it'll become your favorite knife.

I have a couple one of kinds that still get used. Knives were meant to be used. So without question it would see pocket time. How much would depend on how well it fit my needs over time, how it carried in the pocket, edge keeping stuff like that.

Thats what i did with the Benchmade 42MC and 46MCD2 i got 2 of one and 3 of the other so i could carry one and keep one nice. They are both limiteds of 100. You usually have to act fast though because they sell out quickly. ;)

That's the definition of a user!

Honestly, are you "into knives" to make some money, or is it just a hobby? So even if it increases in value, because it is a limited run, are you going to sell it? Probably not, so what do you care whether it increases in value or not. So use it in which ever way you appreciate it the most. Just my $0.02.

Do you ever intend to sell it...ever? If not, do you want it bright and shiny in your coffin? Life is too short for dress pens, watches, knives, etc. I take extremely good care of my "toys", but there are no safe or closet queens in this house. You're either a collector or you're not.

Good luck with your struggle...I've been there.

One last thought. If you have a child or relative to pass the knife on to, I believe a worn knife, carried by you, would be much more valueable to them than any collector knife.

Buy all 100, set 99 in the safe, and use one. That way you get a user, and you control the market in the bargain.

Thanks guys, I never really buy a knife with the thought of reselling it for profit later, just because I want them. I think I'll get this one to use!

p.s. josywales3, that is the funniest signature line I have seen in awhile!

For me, the joy is in the using. Knives, guns, cars, etc. If I don't use it, then I really don't attach much emotion to it.

I am doing it right now. My EDC is a 1 of 100 Schatt & Morgan congress pattern by Queen in D2 with winterbottom bone and signature bolsters. Got it for around $100.00 from Cumberland for Christmas.
