Would you carry this knife?

Most definately carry and use. If you are concerned you may religate it to light duty but for sure use it - looks to be in great shape.

I carry a lot of knives that are already used, just not one like that on a day I need to do some stump whittling.

I love pulling out a handsome sharp knife, and especially like letting someone else do a needed cutting job with a nice slippie.

Absolutely carry (carefully) it'd be a shame to have sittin at home, less chance of it being seen if it doesnt get out and about. You carry it and people will have the enjoyment of seeing the beauty it is. New here to BF truly enjoy what I see and read!!!

I would very much like to have that!

Carry it yes, but use it moderately that way it can be passed on intact with the addition of your own history. Don't want it to suffer the fate of the Living Dead as a safe queen....Thanks for letting us see it.

That is one Jim Dandy of an old Sheffield era Congress knife!.

You better put me in the EDC carry column here although I don't think my friend smiling-knife would approve..:D

But as others have indicated here, treat the old woman gently and with the utmost respect and I think you will be blessed to have her in your pocket!.:)

"old woman."

Sunny, your comment makes me think of something that just may be appropriate for this.

I had an elderly aunt who lived not far away when I was a kid. Like alot of old ladies of that era, she did not ever drive, and maybe at her age she would not have been driving anywhays. Well, it was a custom that on early Sunday morning I would drive down and pick her up so she would spend Sundays with us. She wanted me to come pick her up because she loved it when I would put the top down on my bug eye Austin-Healey Sprite. She'd wrap a scarf over her hair and put on her sunglasses and enjoy the ride. I'd take a little bit of the long way around so we'd cruise along. But if I babied it a little too much not wanting to shake up the old gal, she'd razz me a bit saying "What'd you buy a sports car for if your gonna drive it like a hearse?"

Just goes to show, that just because something's old, don't mean it's done yet.

I'd buy an A G Russell leather pouch, put the knife in it and carry it.

I would carry it on special occassions, but to extend the life of it I would not use it as a regular EDC or for demanding tasks.

That is a great knife. I really like the Congress pattern either in 2 or 4 blades. I would definitely carry it. I would not use it heavily, but it sure is nice to pull out of your pocket and have others ask about it.

A very appropriate post jackknife, and very true as well I believe.

I think I'd lock it up, except when the Grandkids were over. Then, with great awe and circumstance, I'd remove "ole ironsides" from its place of respect and let the kids learn to whittle with it, under my watchful eye. Then, with them watching, I'd clean it up and carefully return it to its place of honor.

To me, that would just be sweet!

Like several other guys have said, I'd carry it. I pretty much always carry a big folder for heavier duty stuff(back right pocket), so a smaller, or more special knife in my front left pocket gets plenty of light use. I wouldn't try battoning it through a tree but for your day to day light duty stuff, heck yeah.

A nice knife, especially one that has some age on it, deserves to serve the purpose it was designed for.

If you are like many of us...you have more than one knife with you...carry it...admire it...use, don't abuse it...take care of it, smile when you see it & share it with others!
Blessings from Camp Bop!

This is a Joseph Rodgers 3 3/4" Congress. I believe the Knife is about 100 yrs. old. I want to sharpen it and carry it would you or leave it to the heirs?

Here's what I'd do. I'd take it to Case HQ and convince them to re-issue a version of that knife with sambar stag or at least amber bone handles and CV steel. Then, I'd buy two: Carry one and mail the other to your old pal mnblade! ;)

GREAT looking knife!
