I'm going try and get some numbers here.

Would you be willing to copy your drivers license, inking out everything but date of birth and name, sending it to me, in order to participate in a series of passarounds?

Would it matter if the knives where really cool?

Thanks,

Why are people saying no??? You would have there name and address anyway for the pass around. What are the afraid of? TO see what they look like?? Or that they are organ donors? If you can ink out all that info, Whats the harm??

Well, I encouraged to see that at least some people would. :)

You could even ink out the month and the day just leaving the year. Here's how I would propose it works: Participants snail mails me the copy with sensitive info inked out, I check to make sure they are above 18 or 21, and I put it in a folder. Then they'd be set to participate in any passarounds that I manage from then on.

I certainly understand people having privacy concerns, and I'm very cautious about that too. There's also a matter of trust, that the info, even if just a name and year of birth, would somehow be used against them. I share that concern too.

Weighing costs and benefits is tough, and unfortunately we usually have to trade a little of one thing for the other.

Sure Dave, only if ya promise not to post my picture on the internet or laugh at my ponytail :D

There's not really a need to check my year because what I put in here is what it's on the DL anyways.
But if you really need it, sure.

Sure I would Dave already has my name and addy from otheer passarounds, he might as well see how good looking I am too. Dave keep my pic away from your wife she will never be the same after :)

If I wanted to participate in a passaround I would be prepared to send a copy of my drivers license to the owner of the knife. I would have to trust the person with my personal information just as they would have to trust me with their knife.

In lieu of proper identification I suppose we could have participants send in a deposit, to be returned after the pass around. That is not ideal but would help the "operators" whose "agency" won't let them expose their true identities :D.

Sure...Do you also want my SS# and my mother's maiden name?..

Might not bad a bad idea. I lent out a gaggle of books a while back and they just vanished (and that disapointed me :o). So I am really not inclined to do it again withou knowing the person.

I would have no problem. This is the stuff that anyone can find out about you anyway. As long as my DL Number isn't visible, there's really nothing of interest on my Driver's license, other than a funny 4-years-out-of-date pic.

Hey, Dave, what are you thinking of passing around this time, anyway?!?!?! Sounds like a big one! Whatever it is, count me in.

Sounds .. big

:)

20 people so far said they would, that's great! That would make a good pool for a passaround(s).

As Mike Turber is fond of saying.. "Stay Tuned!".

I'd have no problem at all. My phone number is published through SBC and I've given my full name here in the forums. That would pretty much get anyone my address. The only thing I'd not want to give are the vitals, like DL# and SS#, and then only because of the latest rash of identity theft.

Dave, glad to see you running this poll, please keep us up to date with the results as I too have been thinking of running another one. I even considered using my ex as a pass-around, the only problem being that I'd get her back afterwards...

BurkStar,

Actually that's another good idea. Let's say you want to do a a passaround, but want to do the age check like I want to. Just shoot me an email, and I can tell you if I already have that person saving you, and other potential participants, time and trouble. Cool.

BTW, how old do you have to be to get an ex anyway? :p

Dave,

I voted Yes, and I hope I'm not too late to get in on the next pass around. I have missed out on the others before. Thanks.

Ken

count me in if you can on the next passaround, i don't think your driver license is that big of all deal i mean nowadays everywhere requires you SSN anyways, i find myself righting my SSN more then my name! it's like a friggin prison out here, they recognize you by your number!!1

Thanks guys.

Just to reiterate, I do not/would not want your ss# or dl#. All I want is to be able to look at someones name, and date of birth (even if just by year) and say, "Yep, that person is over 21."

That's it.

Thanks,
