DaveH: It's only 18 in Canada to buy knives;)
Up here, It's the Socials Insurance Number that's the most important. So no one can ask me for that unless I'm applying for a job or something like that.

I don't know...I would really have to trust the person. I've done a bit of knife trading here on the forums, and never felt the need to have such info. It really depends on if you feel that the person is honest and trustworthy.

ElectricZombie,

I generally agree, but I think there is a difference between how I feel about someone and being objectively able to determine that person is not a minor.

Strictly speaking that's what the issue is.

I said "yes" just for sake of it, however is issue just liability? If you really don't want to send to some one below 18 or something how do you know if their DL info is not "modified" especially in a "copy"?

I would, and I wouldn't have a problem with it because I'm not worried that a fellow forumite would try to steal my identity. But I really think it's unnecessary. The vast majority of forumites are trustworthy, responsible people, regardless of their age. I wouldn't require people to send me that info if I were doing a pass around, and I don't ask for it when I trade/sell knives either.

I wouldn't know a license is faked, but the point is that I had taken reasonable steps to ascertain the age of participants. Due diligence I guess you'd call it.

This could really be openiing up a major can of worms, because if you trade or sell a knife wouldn't you have the same liability problems?
