hey, I have one really really really crappy folding 'eddie bower' knife. half serrated blade, can't hold an edge to save its own soul. Should I just toss it? Have any of you guys thrown away a knife, or just stashed it in the back of the closet? It won't ever be used again, but is that enough justification for throwing away the knife?

If it really won't hold an edge, it may even be a danger to someone picking it up not realizing how defective it is. Trash it.

I tend to keep a couple POS knives in the collection for the real nasty stuff I wouldn't dare use a good blade for. Cutting skateboard grip tape for my son's boards is one of those tasks. A cheap chinese Sharp brand lock-back gets that duty.

I keep the knock off gifts I've gotten over the years and store them in various places "just in case." I'm about to add a second one to my car, for instance, a serrated delica knock off.

Of course, at some stage in knifedom, you start using S30V/G10 knives as beaters and leave the limited editions and customs for light work...and when that happens, it's almost inconcievable to use those knockoffs. Point is, of course, you don't use them because you want to, you use them because for some reason your EDC has dissapeared.

Ehhh...give it to a nephew or somethin ( make sure its ok with his parents of course). Maybe you can make a future knife lover out of someone!

I used to keep ;em with my tools at work and loan them to the idiot who broke the tip off my Schrade 51OT, when ever he asked to borror a knife.

I had a cheap knife like that a few years ago, wouldn't take an edge.
I kept it around my workshop until I cut myself while using it cutting cardboard, I tossed it...

hey just throw it up for trade on the board. it might be trash to you but someone else may have been looking for one for years. worst case scenario someone will make fun of you. give it a try. ahgar

A have a older CRKT M16 that I found .... hate it so much, I almost pitched it, but then decided it would make a good garage and yard knife. It barely takes an edge good enough to cut open bags of steer manure or fertilizer, but at least I don't feel any need to clean it off -- fertilizer residue will even rust 440A quickly in a dry climate, but not whatever the heck the steel is in this POS! :) Of course I had to wedge the flimsy liner lock in place to make it somewhat safe ..... but hey, it's good to have at least one knife where you'd feel good if it broke or got lost!

You could intentionally break the knife, then throw it away. That might at least help you learn something about how folders can fail. (And breaking stuff is fun. ;) )

Exactly!

Do not throw it away.

Instead you should use it for some creative "testing" like this:

Good luck,

I have a couple of Maxams that are Emerson knock-offs and I use them for digging out weeds and dandelions, etc. They make good practice pieces for sharpening. By not tossing 'em they also serve as good reminders, for me anyway, of what NOT to buy.

Chuck it..if it ain't good enough for me, I'm not letting anyone use it, don't want anyone getting hurt..

I ended up chucking it, literally, by throwing it at an old stone wall behind my house...now, I can't seem to find it...

I had one of those knives. I think so at least. It's ugly and has a push button on the side that releases the blade? Mine held an edge okay, it's just that it was butt-ugly. And the serrations were too bumpy for my tastes.

I have a nice little Eddie Baur that had a light built in. I've given several away as gifts and the people say they're great. Mine's been very handy.

If you find it, Give it to me, I'll email you my address if you want. I have never thrown away a knife regardless of how bad it was. :p

I found it, but it's not worth the shipping. I think it cost me $6...worth much less. But, keep me posted if you really want it.
