Would you have your name engraved on a custom knife?

Only if it was being buried with me. Otherwise it would be of no use or value to anyone else. The only name that should be on a custom knife is that of the artist that created it.

Never....however, I have gotten(production) knives(a couple) from my wife that had my initials on them, and they are treasured items.

I'm not a logo/initial/hallmark sort of person.....what is mine is clearly mine, and the need to advertise my initials to the world is not necessary.

That said, I have a nice ukulele that was laser engraved with my initials and birthdate(gift from my mother)....also a treasured item.

My attitude about having or not having my initials engraved on a knife hasn't changed in the eight years since this thread was initiated. Dumb idea, IMHO.

Old thread, but here's my thoughts for what they're worth.
I've made quite a few and had them engraved with the owners name.
In fact the last three knives I've made have plates on the handle and will be engraved before they go to their new owners.
If it's engraved on a plate like this one, then why not?

If you ever want to sell it, it can be easily ground/sanded out leaving you with a 'blank canvas'.

Ian.

If you never plan on selling it and its a nice peice to hand down go for it . On an edc no way plus having your name on it will almost certainly assure you youll never sell it lol. Kinda a guarantee that it will stay in the family

The debate of putting initials on a personal knife is a personal choice. Will it hurt the value of the knife? yes, it will. unless the buyer has the same initials. My personal feelings on this is if you are like anybody else, you are going to keep it, use it, maintain it for the rest of your life, then yes, i would have my initials engraved. In fact I do have my initials engraved on my personal user.

It's all in how you have it engraved and where you engrave it.

I chose the hilt, so if i get hit by a truck or something, my wife can have it buffed out and re-engraved with a design, if need be. Unless she decides to bury with it. lol

--Life's too short to own an ugly knife.

I'd be willing to put my nickname on it, but only because I think 'edited because Rolf thinks this is an infractionable word Gregory' has an awesome ring to it.

No, I would NEVER have my name engraved on a knife. I dislike too much writing on my blades.

Now STevie, your claim of being sucked in would have perhaps been valid with just your post #43......but your post #46 is absolutely voluntary. Also I have tried to teach you to converse nicely and politely on this forum and "Die you dumb SOB!!!!" does NOT fit that template for behavior. Now, please go to your room and don't come back out until you can be nice.

May I suggest a Matthew Gregory style backpedal edit before infraction or warning? :)

Oh, no, no, no. Surely the embarrassment of having been suckered by an 8 yr old thread is punishment enough. After all, Steven probably holds the record for (admirably) having spotted and nailed the most necros over the years. He should be entitled to coast on this one I would think.

Gotta admit, though, I myself was laughin' my ass off as I posted #44, knowing some form of entertaining post would most likely be forthcoming pretty shortly.:D:D
