I live in an area where there is little to none knife stores, let alone any that carry spyderco knifes. Could someone who has a sage 2, caly 3, native 5 please take some pics of them together? just to get a better idea before i order one. Im getting tired of buying knives and not being happy with them.I can never seem to sell any even if i dont carry them.

thanks tap78. I cant decide between the sage 2 and the caly 3. just bought the techno so im on the frame lock kick but the pinned construction is deterring me a little. Has the pinned construction stopped anyone else from it? But i dont have any zdp so thats a big pro for the caly

Not sure where you are in IL but Troy, IL (close to St. Louis) is where Grand Prairie Knives is located. They have a great online store, plus an awesome actual store with very nice people and competitive pricing. Handling them is a nice thing to be able to do. FWIW, I would recommend the Sage 2 out of that bunch for a general EDC.

FWIW, and this won't help any I know, but you're not alone. It is 5 miles just to get to my mailbox, 50 miles to the nearest stoplight and probably 125 miles to the nearest knife store. So I buy all my knives on line without the opportunity to hold or feel them, either. Makes buying a good knife harder, for sure. I won't say that I haven't made mistakes but I have found that there is usually ample info on the net to make decent decisions - although sometimes I have to get creative in order to draw good comparisons. Research, research, research. Google is certainly my friend.

So I can sympathize. :)

Nothing appeals to everyone, so I'm sure it has. Personally, pinned/riveted construction has never bothered me. To be honest, the only construction that turns me off is bolsters with screws in them. As for the Caly 3, it's something of a half-breed since it has a screw pivot, so the blade can be removed for cleaning if that's your thing.

I couldn't really tell by the OP post, but it sounded like he may be new to Spyderco blades. If so, remember that removing the blade by yourself will void the Spyderco warranty.

True, but the ability to disassemble them is the main reason folks give for preferring Spydercos with all screw construction and removing any screw(s) other than the clip screws from one of those would also do that.

And adjustments. I don't always want to take a knife all the way apart, but do want to be able to adjust the pivot to tweak play and stiffness.

no not new, but only been collecting/using for little over a year. 1)not living close to a store where i can handle the knives results in knives that end up in a drawer that i never carry i.e. techno, leaf storm. (the wife says i have issues with returning them). 2) i've only had to completly disassemble a knife once (cutting raw chicken) but it's nice to know i have the option.

Guess i should of titled this post as " i cant decide between the caly 3 or the sage 2" i dont have a ZDP knife but really like the frame lock on the sage. I know this is really subjective but like in original post i have issues with returning knives. maybe i ll just get both and you'll see one on the exchange forum along with a techno and leaf storm

I bet you could sell the Techno fairly easily, Leafstorm maybe not. Funny, I like the looks of both those, but never tried them because of things I have heard about them.

I'll second GP knives. I live in St. Louis and its 30-40 mins away. I go 2-3 times a year

Just get the Caly 3 CF and be done with it :) ... My favorite Spydie ever thus far. Smoothest action I have ever felt (although it was a little gritty out of box, it was just leftover gunk from machining and cleared right up).

As for selling knives here, people want a deal. If you buy a knife and try to resell it for exactly what it costs someone else to buy it, you may not sell it. Afterall, why buy from someone you don't know and run the risk of poor customer service when tons of great knife sites like cutleryshoppe.com howesknifeshop.com gpknives.com etc. sell them at the same price or lower? Plus even if you haven't carried it, it will never feel "new" to a person buying it on a forum. It's just the way it is.

If you plan to buy a knife and resell it in a timely fashion, I would plan on losing a few bucks on your purchase. Just my .02

Best of luck to you Brand0n

Edit: Just should maybe clarify. When I say smoothest action, I mean backlock. The Spydie comp locks seem to be smoother IMHO

Thanks Aaron. Damn you OCD, just found a good deal on the super blue caly 3. I talk a big game but probably never sell a knife.
