I just got my new platen and adapter arm.The wheels on the platen are beat up because of the poor packaging job. They were both just stuck in a box with some newspaper. Here is a shot of one wheel but they are both about the same.Is this a big deal? Will the burrs tear a belt or keep it from tracking properly? Should I just knock the burrs off with a file and let it go? I am unhappy that my new piece is beat all to ....

Yes. Send it back if not for yourself, do it for everyone who will order this part in the future.

Where did that come from? Any good company would definately replace that at their expense. Those gouges happened from just the shipping process? WOW!

I assume they happened during shipping. The solid steel adapter arm was free to bang around in the box.the company just stuffed some newspaper in the box.If they had folded some thick newspaper and taped it around the wheels and done the same to the solid adapter arm all would have arrived fine. They could also have attached the parts and wrapp them and all would have been fine.

I will not name the company unless I have a problem with them.I got home too late to call today.I am dissapointed and I guess I will ask to send it back.I just wanted to know if you would feel the same or if I was blowing up over something that was not too big a deal.

I would definitely send it back and have them send another one and reimburse you for the return shipping. I'm sure you paid a good amount of money for that, and I doubt those gouges were advertised as a free bonus!

Good Luck.

I just received the same item stuffed in a flat rate box with NO newspaper or padding of any kind. The box had been busted open on one end , taped back up and a POST OFFICE sticker saying the box was damaged in shipping:grumpy:. I was lucky, no damage that I could tell. By the way, my item was a Bader platen and wheel assembly. NOT shipped from Bader but new from a Bader Dealer.

Yea, I'd send it back. I just got a shipment in from Beaumont Metal Works, and I thought the packaging was a bit lacking. Thankfully, there wasn't anything in there to bang around and damage the aluminum SWF. For what I paid, is a bit of bubble-wrap too much to ask? The upside is I now know what tomato juice is selling for up there! :D

For what you paid for that setup, you shouldn't have to worry about it being poorly protected during shipping.

I would definitely send them back. Machine parts are worthy of more care in packaging than that, and whoever you bought them from obviously needs to be reminded of that. Were they insured?

I think it looks worse than what it really is. Contact the sender and send them this picture. Then try it out. Maybe sand the high spots but I'd try it first. It may just be fine.

What do you think one of your customers would do if a knife they ordered from you showed up looking like that?????????????? :thumbdn:

Unless the company was willing to give me a significant discount on the merchandise (like 50% off) I would send it back and expect pristine merchandise the next time it arrived!

Your customer would expect nothing less from you! :D

Considering the old adage, "You get what you pay for." An axiom to that should be "You SHOULD get what you pay for."

If you paid for a new wheel, you should get a new wheel. Not something from the scratch and dent section.

No way I would accept that. It's something you're going to keep for the life of the grinder most likely. I'd want it as close to "just made" as possible.

The trouble is that they are likely sending another package out today with the same type of shoddy packaging. This is one of those situations where if you accept it as-is, you are effectively telling the retailer that it is ok to do business this way. It's bad enough that the packages get thrown around during shipping, on our dime no less. We owe it to ourselves to demand proper service from the people we spend our money with. Otherwise you can thank yourself the next time this happens.

I just spoke to a company rep and she is sending me two new replacement wheels.

Maby a little better packaging could have prevented this but some of the staff were gone to an event when I ordered this so who knows?

The main thing is I am being taken care of without a run around so I give a thumbs up to the Steven Bader CO.

I would if not real bad , take a belt and turn it inside out and let it sand a little bit. it will not help that out but take off some of the glaze on the other wheels as well.
just what i would try first.

Bader is an AWSOME co.! If it was thier wrong I knew they would fix it. They have gone out of thier way to help me out with parts any time I've needed them.

Mace is right! The folks at Bader are good people....with maybe one or two goofy emplyees who don't know how to pack stuff...:)

I would have raised hell, but filed off the burrs and used it.
