Would you send this wood back?

I purchased some buckeye burl scales from a reputable dealer and I'm not happy with the product. The scales were advertised as 3/8" thick, but one is 3/8" and one is 9/32" thick. Normally that wouldn't be an issue, but the smaller one isnt flat on either side. I know I should contact them and see if they will replace them, but I wanted to see if this is normal for buying pre cut scales ( I usually buy blocks)?

I have never had that issue either. I buy about a 50/50 mix of scales and blocks and have not had any that were that far off in thickness from each other

If advertised as 3/8" I would send them back. They should be using minimum measurements as advertised measurements.

I usually expect the advertised thickness to be the *minimum*, and if there's any variation it should be extra material, not less, and I believe that's pretty standard. Probably this was just some confusion if the dealer was in fact reputable.

I'd definitely let them know, ask them what they want to do to make it good. I'm guessing you'll get a replacement or a credit without having to send them back, otherwise I'd expect them to cover the shipping costs.

It's kinda obvious (I think) where those came from just by the pics. I haven't done business with them directly, but believe them to be upstanding.

I'd have contacted them first, but what do I know. It is far from advertised and I'd be bummed too.
