Aside from the obvious (fit and finnish ) what are the characteristics of a makers work that give it the WOW factor ? What are you looking for visually, Functionally ?

Two tough posts Ken

The one for the collection or the one that may be out of reach of the collection takes on aspects of a living thing. It has an appeal to my eye. It has a feel before it has been picked up. It has it's maker's skills reflected in every single angle, plane, surface, and material mating joint. When I pick up the knife, there is always a surprise at this point all the above have been blended into a work of art that has a special balance in feel, design and execution that I cannot describe. All I can say is that the knife for my collection is more than an object and will remain that way for me.

Sorry for the double post guys , My @#$%^%$# Computer told me that it didn't go through the first time so I hit the button again.

This computer thing is still new to me
I guess youl have to bear with me making stupid mistakes from time to time . At least I can type a sentance in under ten minutes now ,That is if I remember to put a period at all.

Ken, it's hard to describe, just a feeling. It's like it comes alive in my hand. Of course the first thing that attracts you is the visual but then when you pick it up something just happens. I own quite a few handmade knives but for me my Polkowski Polecat and John W, Smith model 1 folder just have that special feeling for me.

The most important feature I would like in a using knife is for it to be able to cut well and hold its edge. I've found this quality in the knives of Phill Hartsfield and Bob Dozier.

The most important feature for collecting I look for is fit and finisj, such as in the works of you, RJ Martin, Pat Crawford, Bud Nealy, Ankrom, Osbourne, Ralph, and many others.
