WOW! Ridiculous prices at the gun show in SLC!

The knife dealers are hurting at gun shows. The public is in a gun, ammo and magazine buying panic. If any of them are knife aficionados, they're not buying knives. Knife sales are way down when there's a gun buying panic. I've seen it at some of the biggest gun shows in the country.

I love gun buying panics, gives me a great excuse to step away from buying guns and put that money into my other hobbies!

Gun buying panics also hurt the online sellers. Unless you're a gun dealer, I can't see any reason to enjoy the gun buying frenzy. I took a number and stood in line for a total of 3 hours to buy a handgun at Gander Mountain. Knife sales = 0.

That gun show guy is a douche anyways, the one that claims only knives from the US or Japan are the only ones made with quality and that if you buy anything else your "stupid" (his exact words). I'm a young looking 20 year old guy. Yeah I understand I look like I'm 16 but don't treat me like I'm some uneducated moron, If anything that guy needs to educate himself and his son about the knives they are selling. He told me he went to the kershaw warehouse sale and is the biggest seller of kershaw knives. My girlfriends then began talking about how she really loves and wants a kershaw tilt and the guy looked at me and asked me what the tilt was lol!

It's been like that since I was a kid. I remember a dealer at a mall kiosk talking down to me when I was looking at one of the orginal Paul knives back in the 70's.

They were $75 back then and he wouldn't even take it out of the case to show it to me. It left in impression that I still remember.

Same with some gun dealers. A few years ago at a gun show, I heard a dealer talking down to a young guy. After the young guy walked away I told the dealer if he discourages young people from getting into the hobbby by being an AH , then our hobby will eventually die.

Last gunshow I attended, some guy with a knife table wanted $50 for a Kershaw One Ton. Oh, let's see, that's only about $15 OVER SRP! Needless to say, I passed on that deal so someone else could take advantage of it....

Wow... Some real schmuck sellers you guys see... At the NYCKS, they had the spiderweb Blurs, and the CF Blur for about $75 a piece, an 0560/1 for $200 each and a DLC Tilt for $375. I guess I lucked out... If only they had a stonewashed Tilt though...

Ive seen knives priced like that. I dont mind saying "Ill give you $50 for that one you want $100. I can go home and order that exact knife for $45 shipped to my door." It gives them a reality check and a chance to make a sell. They can say "no" if they want b/c Ill happily go home and order it online.

I went to a show a few months back and they had some 1660DAM's for full retail. Not a bad deal considering but the one they had was the display and had rust. They wouldnt lower their price even with it being 90% knife. No biggie.

I still can get them. (he has two for sale) I have no need for them so my only reason to buy was to re-sell and make a few bucks, but I wasnt sure if $80 each was gonna net a decent profit.

Offer him $150 for both and sell them here for $90. If they are in good shape they should sell easily. And you would be going a favor for the guys here.

I went to that gun show last year and was far from impressed. The guns were overpriced prior to this frenzy, and most of the knives were cheap imports. Glad I didn't even make an attempt this year.

Thats a awesome price for a DLC Tilt

The gun show that comes here to Tampa every couple months has pretty decent prices as far as I've seen. Mostly under msrp, and close to internet prices. Just depends on the vendor and the knife. My brother got a cqc 7 for $135. If i remember correctly 561s were going for $260.

Gun stores around here are priced higher. 561 was $325. I think mostly I'll stick with the internety for my knife purchases.

Yeah, here in Central Illinois the prices seem to vary by vendors. A couple of months ago, at a gun show in town, my Dad and I picked up a couple Blurs for $50 from one vendor. The same guy had pretty good prices, RAM's for $50, Leeks for $35, etc. There was a different vendor though who had outrageous prices. He had Spyderco Resilience's priced at $95, a Tenacious at $75, and Blurs for $100.

i agree about the venders talking down to young looking people I am a 20 year old collge guy and I went to a gun and knife show in mass a few months ago and it was mostly over priced guns and crapy knives execpt for one table where the guy was selling brand name knives for MSRP and above and when I showed another customer Bladehq prices for some of the knives as the vender turned around we both laughed and left

you guys got to remember who these guys are selling to. Gun show knife sellers are trying to maximize profits by selling knives to guys who dont really know much about knives. Sure there is some crossover from guns to knives but you would be surprised at how many premium gun owners think that a smith and wesson folder is the cream of the crop in knives. Gun show sellers are usually banking on the customers who are older or less computer savvy though their job is getting much harder. The knife guys around here in Illinois seem to have broken into two categories here. Some guys have gone the rare route where they deal in hard to find and discontinued products. Prices can be over list if you cant find it anywhere else. And the rest seem to have moved to selling garbage china and pakistan knives. I rarely see anything in the middle of the road like kershaws at shows these days. Though I limit my gun show attendance as its usually a let down. I do try to catch the couple knife shows they have every so often around here as sometimes you can land a rare bird. But I find that dedicated knife shows have better pricing. Though you will run into the occasional nut case who thinks a used knife is more costly that a NIB example.
