Wow, This Addiction Escalated Quickly!

Very even patina versus one that just develops with use. Glad you like it, but I prefer my blades to be new looking if that is possible.

This knife arrived NIB on Friday and had some light rusting in the jimping. I wanted to get that out and afterwards start some protection. On this $65 EDC blade I'm all for the forced patina. On my M4 Military, I don't think I will do this. Tuf-Cloth on that.

Some have come and gone. I guess this one was inevitable:

Have to get a new family shot to see who's left :)

Well, here’s where we are 2 month’s later. Not many from the first pic, but a few. Loving the hobby! Heading to NYCKS next month with my brother in law. Have gotten into sharpening and repairing broken tips here and there for friends and family. My wife thinks I’m nuts, but it’s fun!

Not bad for 2 months. I think I did similar myself... My wife knows I have a few knives, but she is still in the dark for the most part as I get them all sent to my work ;)

"ONE OF US, ONE OF US, ONE OF US"

Yeah man, you got it bad.
Already forcing patinas? Time to check into a clinic.
I saw you sliding down the slippery slope in the very first post when you said you were already upgrading a handle to micarta.
It's too late to warn you, but I will say, DON'T even try vintage micarta.
Someone with your predisposition will become a Westinghouse Ivory Micarta addict in no time.;):p

I see you have the large folding CRKT Razel. That was a hard one to find. I have had mine for a couple years now and use it primarily for scraping.

The accumulation looks good! You mentioned that some have come and gone in a previous post; none of mine have "gone" unless I loose them, break them, or give them away. Enjoy.

A hot lemon juice bath followed by a mustard & cider vinegar soak. I'm happy with the results of my first dabble into forced patinas.

Damn that looks great!
Might have to pick one up! Great job on the forced patina.
I dont normally buy many knives as i a a maker. How do you like it?

And how easy is it to do a forced patina on M4?

Another SR shaver here you should see my brush and soap collection LOL
A bunch of enablers here same as on badger and blade.
Welcome to the dark side and kudos on a great start!

Where's the Chaparral? The Dragonfly2? What about the ZT0452cf? Maybe I missed the XM18? Not sure if that's an 804cf? Oh, Slysz Bowie :)

I would suggest using what you have for a while so you can determine what you like and dislike about each knife. Then once you have a more refined expectation, then begin research to find the knife that most fits your criteria. I had one knife at a time for 12 years. Then in the next year i bought 8 more while searching for the "perfect" edc knife. The closest i have come to the mythical, perfect edc knife is the 940-1...whoops, this may not help your addiction.

I owned only one knife (maybe two) for the first 30 years of my life. If it got lost, I replaced it. What happened? Knife knut brother in law came into the picture and then the knives started trickling in especially fixed blades that I seldom use. I was 90% right for a long time and felt I didn't need a fixed blade at all. These days I have been averaging about one knife a month in the last couple of years. That is actually too many, but most are not expensive ones unless you consider $100 expensive. Still really like slip joint traditionals (GEC's mostly) and I buy them. But I am finding that I am not using them.... (except SAKs).

It's funny you mention Westinghouse Micarta........I was VERY close to grabbing the Graham Razel Stubby with that very material. Was talking to the seller on ebay, but I ultimately didn't pop on it. Probably for the best if that was going to lead me down another collecting rabbit hole :)

Nabbed the razel on ebay. Want a mid tech, but can't find one. The CRKT is actually great, except it came to me scraping against the scale. Terrible setup from the factory, but after taking it apart it is much better. Not wonderful, but better. For $50, I can't really complain, it's a super useful knife.

Damn that looks great!

Thanks, the Urban forced patina is actually K390. It was very easy with lemonjuice and mustard. Great knife, holds an edge forever! Used it cutting Pergo, it's a little soldier.

Ha, well, an XM-18 3" has come and gone, along with an 804CF. XM-18 was a great flipper, new Recurve with a killer detent, but it ultimately had to move along for the damascus mammoth Sebenza. The 804CF just didn't bond with me.

I've been eyeing Chaparral and Slyz Bowie though. I think there is a chance on those after NYCKS.

Life is too short for one knife at a time for 12 years :) 940-1s look great, and I absolutely LOVE my 550, but damned if I can't dial in proper blade drop and flipping without getting some side to side play on most Axis locks. I've had two others that have moved along. BUT, the Knife Works 940-1501 and 810-1401 certainly have my attention. I'm sure one or the other will come my way at some point ;)

2 months and all of those? Very nice choices.

If I can make a suggestion, perhaps you could try saving up some money over the course of a few months? It would be extremely hard, but if your tastes get more expensive, it may be worth it.

I made my last big knife purchase over a year and a half ago. I saved about a little bit of money per month since then, and splurged last month on a sweet knife. I don't have as much wiggle room, being a student and all lol.

The process is killer, but the rewarding feeling is worth it.

Great suggestion, but I really don’t want to cross over the $1k mark on a knife. My latest was the Mammoth Ivory Damascus Debenza, and I wouldn’t mind if that was my upper limit. Certainly wouldn’t mind a Jason Clark Tanto Flipper, maybe I’ll get lucky at NYCKS.

Purchased first knife, a Randall Model 14 back in 93, and didn't get that much in to collecting until 2017. Then all Hell broke lose. I think I easily dropped $3,500 on knives this year.

What I also did was to buy all the yearly Blade and Knife editions going back 7yrs, and went though every page(pdfs). Made a list of what it is that I liked of specific bladesmiths, and blade styles and saw that there are some interesting areas to collect in. Now I have a list for folders, axes, tomahawks, art knives, spikes, ... this is the Index to my document:

DAGGERS, KNIVES, SWORDS ...

All that I can say is research research research before you start to plunk down your hard earned cash, so that you collect with some logic.

P.S. The document is huge, especially the section on steels.

P.S.S. Yesterday started collecting Spydercos with purchase of Military in S110V. I also have three Randalls on order, all custom, and between $650 to $750 ea.
