I just saw a Gerber EZ-Out on eBay and the blade was
410 stainless. Can you believe it? It comes with a sharpening
stone and the bid is way up there at $3.25 with five dollar
shipping. It's like a disposable boxcutter, only isn't as nice.
The Airframe is from a bygone era. Just curious as to how
much you paid for those two? Were they brand new or
used? (I'm really getting to hate partially serrated blades.
When straight edged models are available, they're
normally snapped up first, leaving the partially serrated
blades for the latecomers.
Anyway, I don't know if the Airframes will be collectors
items because of the way Gerber is going now. If they
had retained their once sterling reputation, it would
have been better. As I understand it, only 1,800 Airframes
were made, but less than 50 of them had the titanium
frames. Why? Who knows? Titanium isn't that hard to
come by. Neither is 154M stainless. (I bought a bunch
of CRKT's S-2 framelocks with titanium frame and
ATS-34 blades for $25 per knife, brand new. I still
can't get over that!)
The Airframe was once a hallmark of Gerber, which
had a decent reputation at the time. Now, the Gerber
execs are destroying that reputation.
