Wowed by generosity - New to traditionals

Congrats to Abbydaddy, but even more kudos go to EyeDog! Nice job:thumbup:

+ 5K! :thumbup::thumbup:
Admirable generosity, EyeDog!

I see EyeDog set you up with a gorgeous knife, so maybe this is a bit late. If you're doing a lot of traveling, really nice knives like that one are at risk of being lost / forgotten / stolen. What I find to be very practical as a travel knife is an Alox Victorinox Cadet or Pioneer, or something in that family. I had an extended business trip a while back and carried a SAK Electrician with me. It was great to have not only a decent blade but the other tools as well. And worst case, if it were lost or stolen, $25 and easy to replace.

Some other good affordable knives are anything in the Buck 30x family (I am fond of the 303 myself), Case Sod Buster Jrs, and if you are really on a budget, Rough Rider knives which are a good value for the price.
...

I also agree with John's recommendations. Alox SAKs are incredibly appealing knives, to me; I have several. And I'll go on record as saying that IMHO Rough Riders are good knives, period - no qualifications needed. I don't have huge amounts of experience with other pricier brands of knives, but the Rough Riders I have are as well built as any of the other knives I have handled, including Case, Buck, and GEC (admittedly, I've only handled one GEC). Rough Riders are only available in stainless, though.

A nice knife and a nice whisky. Can't go wrong.

Whole hearted approval from the Scottish contingent. Welcome to the porch! :)

Now a fully fledged member of the "Knife-nerdish-new-made-dads" clan

Ooh, what is this Knife-nerdish-new-made-dads clan? I am a scotch drinking, knife loving, new dad...

I shipped the knife today along with a KSF pocket sheath. I think abbydaddy will be a convert!

I want to thank everyone for the kind words for me. Several times over the past year or so since I've been a member here both mod's and members have stepped up and helped me in really nice ways. Kelima stepped into a problem I was having with a negitave iTrader rating and his persistence made a huge difference in getting it reversed. My wife and I got to meet him a few months back and he's a terrific guy and BF member.

RevDevil and Ersav have been great when I've pestered them with PM's about different things.

And then...several times when I've ordered knives from the members here, I find an extra knife, an unexpected sheath or lanyard or some other thing that just blew me away. The generosity of the members here is amazing. I've tried out a couple of other knife forums but nothing compares to BF and the BF members.

Thanks back to you all!!!

Mike

Wahoo! My new knife just arrived. I'll take more pictures and write about the knife in the near future, but I just wanted to share that it is in its new home :)
