I made a sheath for it but can decide if I want scales or paracord wrap.

I'm not a fan of the scales. I know lots of people like them, but they just don't fit my hands.

i would go with scales, i think that they look better and they definatly last longer. and would look good with a DT izula.

best thing you can do is wrap it and wait 'til your scales come in. when they arrive, put 'em on, and wrap the O.D. izula you ordered with them.

It seems that most people that have tried the scales swear by them and say it's a big improvement over 550 cord.

I haven't tried the scales so I can't give my opinion on them but I absolutely love the way the Izula feels with a good wrap and don't really feel like the scales would improve the knife for what I use it for. I've also had an affinity for 550 cord wrapped knives for a while now, so that was actually a big draw of the Izula to me.

I like my Izula knives as I think they achieve the design goal of being an concealed carry or survival blade. With a paracord wrap it improves the grip without adding too much bulk. Scales may be visually 'nicer' to some but add bulk to a knife that does not imprint when bare or wrapped when worn under a shirt (mercharness style) or as a neck knife, but does with scales. Scales may 'last longer' than a wrap but 25c worth of cord that does last well and is very easy and quick to replace (or actually use!) does not sell scales as an argument for me.

Haven't tried scales yet, but you can't beat a gutted paracord wrap. Keeps it thin and gives it a decent grip, plus it looks cool. :D

A paracord wrap feels better than bare or the scales.

That said, my EDC Izula wears scales. They are tougher and easier to clean grease and dirt off of. They feel kind of wierd in my hands, but not wierd enough to stop using. It kind of makes it into a 2 finger knife for me, with the ring finger wrapped around where the circle is. Just feels kind of funny.

I have another one too, and it wears paracord. Comfy and flat. Very nice.

Sure is easier to clean blood and guts off of the scales, though.

I prefer scales or Izula Naked.... Paracord wraps are cool but hold your funk and grime....washed and not dried properly and they could mildew.
Scales..get funky ,wash and dry...move on....
or naked just wipe and go

The izula is meant to be a small pocket, pack or neck knife-what I can't fathom is why you guys buy an izula and put scales on it when the RC3 is negligibly larger and comes with scales already. The Izula was meant to be low profile, I vote you keep it that way.

The scales were cheap enough that I don't feel bad ordering them to try them out. If I don't like 'em, I'll slap 'em on my girl's Izula for her (smaller hands and no other blades to speak of, so she'll appreciate it). I still would like to see just how thick it becomes with the scales on. On their way .

The Izula is no smaller with the scales than it is the paracord imo. I like the scales better. But I have more than one Izula. Cord and scales

Yes, the scales only increase the izula's profile to a few(about 2) millimeters larger than the sheath. IMO Scales are better, but a good paracord wrap is just as comfy.

Are the scales hollow like on the HEST? I know there wouldn't be much storage space, but that would be one advantage if they were.

I think a 550 wrap feels great, and cord is cheap, so if it gets gunked up: no big deal.

I also tried a wrap with 1/16 braided cord, and it's obviously thinner, but doesn't feel as good as a standard paracord wrap. As a matter of fact, the only preference I have between it and a bare frame is the loop I added to stick my pinkie through to give a better grip. And it would be easy enough to add a little lanyard to the pommel hole to accomplish the same thing without a full wrap.

it looks like you might run into a problem if you put the scales on since your sheath rides up high on the "skeleton"

Yeah, another sheath would be needed for the scales.
Hey, that gives me idea for what I would like to do for Rat Pack here.
If anyone here would trade me a pair of scale. I will make them a sheath for there Izula. Anyone else who post about scales vs cord wrap. I'll ship them a Izula sheath for $15.
