wrapped handle

I am interested in doing a wrapped handle. I was thinking of wrapping with silk fabric embedded with epoxy. What would you recommend for epoxy and how do I make the epoxy black?

Any other fabrics or cords would you recommend for wrapping?

When it's all cured, can the epoxy/wrapping composite be ground to shape?

I think Bob Engnath(sorry if I spelled it wrong) had a section on handle wrappings on his site, Part III. Might want to look at it.
