hey dan i think it was very wrong of you to close these threads.
IF I OR THE OTHERS HAD OR WERE INSULTING OR DEMEANING OTHERS YES I WOULD AGGREE BUT NOT JUST BECAUSE THE LINK MIGHT MAKE YOU FEEL UPSET DAN.

many people out there are not aware of what was done to nick berg, that is why the link to the video was put there.
if you wished to see you could exercise that right, who are you to decide what others may or may not see.
yes it is offensive to see,but it is an insult to nick berg not to see and acknowledge what these animals did to him.
ok you say all things khukuri should be here, YOU YOUR SELF PUT MANY TRIVIAL THREADS NOT ON KHUKS.
and then ban this thread on nick berg, even bill himself tried to convey the depravity of these animals and how they butchered an innocent civilian.but as i said words could not describe the way he died,so i decided to post a link to the video,
WHETHER YOU WANTED TO GO TO THE LINK AND LOOK IS UP TO THE INDIVIDUAL. so i do not understand why you moderated it dan. ?????
do you condone what al khieda did to nick ?? i think not.
but by not bringing out into the open what was done to poor nick,we all just carry on with our self indulgent lives. and poor nick berg fades into oblivion.i for one after seein that video will never forget what was done to him. :(

Edited by me because no good would come from what I wanted to say to this thread. You did the right thing Dan.

Kendo?

Take it easy. Dan was named moderator because he has the appropriate sense of what belongs in the Forum. You may not agree with all decisions, but you don't have to. Once you accept entry into HI's Cantina, you accept the operating procedures in effect here.

No one will forget, nor are many unaware, of this episode. You may believe you were the revealer of truth, but that link, that video were inappropriate in so many ways that I would not begin to list them.

Dan, in my opinion, made the correct judgement. But even if I disagreed with him, it is his role to monitor this forum according to his best judgement.

If you disagree, you might contact him via email, rather than castigate him in the forum. That too, is your choice.

Do well.

Ken, take it up with me if you want to berate anyone!!!! I was the one that complained to Dan about your thread. The goddamned link had already been posted twice or at least similar ones in another thread and we didn't need another.
Besides you found the goddamned link and I imagine everyone here is as smart as you and can find the link by themselves if they so wish so much to see it although I can't imagine why.
Such posts are out of line in this forum!!!!
Fer cryin out loud Bill even refused to post the link where the sacrificial goat was being beheaded. What makes you think he would want a link of a fellow human being and an American at that having his head cut off with a dull knife. get back on your meds Ken, we don't need that kind of crap in here!!!!

Guys...it's an emotional issue as evidenced by this thread.

Please let it go...Ken, you've done what you thought was right by posting it, Yvsa did what he thought was right by voicing his objection to it, Dan did what he thought was right by locking it out.

Let's remember that anyone can post anything they want (pretty much) on their own website...this one happens to belong to Bill, and he's entrusted the control of it to Dan.

If Dan weren't level headed and thick skinned, Bill wouldn't have him in charge.

Done deal.

this thread is upsetting how could it not be.
you are all right in your views,in some ways.
sorry if anyone was upset that was not my intention.
BUT I STAND BY MY STATEMENT NICK BERG DESERVES TO HAVE HIS MURDERERS SEEN.

I'm more of a lurker than any sort of regular here in the Cantina, but I just wanted to slip in and say that I've never understood the reactions I see on some message boards when moderators do their jobs.

Moderators are here to make the board a welcome place for all. They have been given tools to close and remove threads that threaten the health of the boards, and when they choose to do so, you need to nod your head (yes or no depending on your opinion) and go on to the next subject.

Life is too short to get pissy over something like a thread closing. I believe he could have just as easily deleted the thread entirely. Agree or not, he is the moderator and arguing will just make you angrier and more unhappy.

I pretty much agree with the majority on this one. Kendo, i agree with your anger. No war, whether it is fought against a nation or an ideal, should be viewed through rose colored glasses. I can appreciate your passion for the innocent. However, on a practical note, this is a forum that can be viewed by anyone 13 and up. Not that we should shield our kids from war, but, dang, that video gave me nightmares. I totally support Dan's stand on this. He is the boss of the forum and we should accept that with a happy heart. Did he jump the gun on some of the threads? it is possible. Would he have closed them down as quickly had he been a Mod for over 6 months? who knows. All i know is that I'm sure Dan feels a great deal of pressure to uphold the core principles of the Cantina. Could you imagine being hand picked by Bill and Rusty to uphold the peace? He is new to this just as we are new to having him as a Mod. Hang tough, Dan. You did good, IMHO.

Thanks
Jake

I appreciate your concern, Kendo. I also appreciate your last post (2 above this one).

This is a tough issue for all of us. But what fills us with hatred instead of strength/determination, must be carefully considered.

I moderated that thread based on the opinions of the majority. There was no need for me to insert my own personal feelings.

I also left it open so that others could see what discussion there was.

If you still have questions, read the "Why I closed the threads" thread.

If you want to discuss the situation on Iraq...start a thread in the Political Forum.

If you have a beef with me personally, take it to W&C, or GB&U.

I agree with Nasty.

Besides- don't give the b*****ds the joy of causing strife between the good men that are their enemies, even for a moment.

If I were beheaded, I wouldn't want people watching me. I just kinda shy that way.

In some ways throwing around the video is disrespectful to Mr. Berg. It has become "the video" and not the horrible final moments of a human being. I didn't watch the video nor to I intend to do so. :(

If someone cuts off my head, and one of you guys posts the video, I'm gonna come back and... haunt you or something. Or at least rattle some chains in your house.

its pretty rare that I put someone on ignore but after reading this from Kendo awhile back and now this post...enjoy the ignore list

YOU LOT SEEM TO THINK ITS GREAT THAT IRAQ IS GOING TO GET THOUSANDS OF ITS CITIZENS MURDERED, I AM BEGINNING TO SYMPATHISE WITH THE ARABS
I HONESTLY THINK THAT THE WORLD WOULD BE A FAR BETTER PLACE IF THE
USA WAS WIPED OFF THE MAP. GOOD RIDDENS TO BAD RUBBISH
AMERICA THE EVIL EMPIRE TO BLOODY RIGHT
LONG LIVE AL QUIDEA.

good job Dan

I support Dan in whatever thread he wants to close. Even if I disagree.

That is part of the deal. We have to have some trust. The other side of that is Dan has to trust us. He needs to give us enough time to work it out if a thread goes bad, even if he doesn't understand the fuss or think it relevant. Imagine changing shoes from a participant to a moderator. He watches these little steam pots called threads and if one boils over he has to make sure no one gets burned.

Enough of this subject now.

good job Dan

Sweet, that's exactly the post I was thinking of when I saw that Kendo was back.

I guess that's part of what I missed when the threads were locked. Guess I need to figure out that ignore list...

Dan, good job, totally inappropriate behavior.

Josh-

Didn't Kendo attempt to explain that post by saying he'd adopted a postion not neecesarily his own but that needed to be heard? I cant remember exactly what reverse twist he'd figured out for himself. Then a little later we heard how important the war on terror was. I don't really have to put anyone on ignore because internally I have my own mechanism that filters white noise.

Munk--I don't remember the exact excuse. I think I stopped reading it after it got moved to political. Typical troll behavior--talk a bunch of crap, and then when you get called on it, come up with some excuse as to why you didn't really mean it.
