Bump. Price reduction on everything and the hammer is running so custom size bars are available again.

hello, im new here--what types of stuf can i use the iron for. can i make knives out of them ( reffering to thelonger ones)--regards tony

Wrought iron is used for guards and other fittings on a knife. By itself its useless for a blade but can be forge welded onto a piece of high carbon steel for a unique blade. Its iron with silica slag in the metal, its no longer made on an industrial scale because smelting methods have improved resulting in much purer steel. I would estimate that the chain I'm using for the bars is about 200 years old.

Thanks Pike3e, do you have an email address that I can contact you at with the total cost and my papal account?

i sent you an email via the forum but my email is mvra(at)myfairpoint.net

Forgive me if my question is dumb but what makes this stuff so expensive?
A pound of silver is about 200$ now, this iron is approaching it.

Scarcity I suppose, it hasn't been made on an industrial level in over 100 years. The only way you can get it is from old stashes but with the scrap boom a lot was scraped and smelted. 10 pounds of my wrought iron is $150 compared to ~$240 for one pound of silver. There are some steels being produced that even cost $50 per pound.

I consider my prices very fair since all other suppliers that I have seen charge between $20 and $40 per pound.

I forgot to order ins-tuff rigidizer for my new forge so the next person to order 2+ full bars (#7-12) gets a 25% discount! This deal is only open until Wednesday.
