I'm in the process of sorting my scrap to make my (hopefully soon) upcoming move easier.

For sale today: Wrought iron anchor chain in single torch cut links, I have 10 of them that I'll sell.

These links are hand forged, and are pre-civil war era, the stock is 1.5" diameter, and they weigh an average of 8.5 pounds each (+or- 1/2 pound)

I'm selling them as they sit, for $50 each plus shipping, each link will produce aproximately 19 inches of 1.5 inch diameter round stock

This wrought iron is fairly high grade, and is blacksmith quality, not architectural, which means that it is ready to be reworked into fittings or other parts without further refinement.

Most links have the forge weld intact, however some where cut out when the links where cut.

I don't think I'll be selling any more of these, but if I do, it won't be many, as I'm waiting to forge out most of this larger stock into more widely useable sizes.

I'm leaving town this morning, and won't be back till monday, Email me to buy this wrought iron, it will be sold in the order of the emails that come in. Anything not sold by monday afternoon will go back into the stock pile, and will be forged out later.

How sure are you about that being wrought iron? I've got wrought iron anchor chain from both east and west coast and you can see the layers in it. All wrought iron anchor chain is higher grade because it needs to be to do the job. I'd do some testing on what you have before you call it wrought iron. A good test to do is to cut a piece of it 3/4 to 7/8 threw and then bend it till it breaks. If its wrought iron you'll see layers and it will look fiber like.

I'm Absolutely positive it's wrought, I've used about 15 links of this stuff myself.

I've got a picture of a break that I can upload if you want, this stuff has a very fine grain to it, and has been stored inside for the last 70 years.

Hope that helps,

Tony

Larry Nowicki just got a section of the stuff with a break on one end, maybe he'll chime in about it as well.

Sorry, I've never seen any in such good shape but your photo's are proof enough for me. Its indeed what you say it is.....

No problem guys, legitimate questions.

I'll keep the sale going a few extra days since there was some confusion at the begining, and if anybody buys 2 or more links, I'll throw in shipping within the U.S.

Tony

Are you going to the Blade Show? I would take one or two of those links, and could pick it up in Atlanta. If not you could ship it to me.Let me know. - Stacy

Stacy, I'll be at blade, I'll set aside the last 2 links if you want them. I can either ship them to you, or bring them to blade for you.

Alright guys, that's it, I'm sold out now, but may have more wrought for sale shortly, depending on what else I find while organizing for the move.

Tony

Sorry guy's but I haven't had a chance to do anything with it yet. Looks like the real thing to me. I hopt to get to forge some of Dan's JD5160 this weekend and was planning on a piece of this for the guard. We'll see how the weekend goes.

My best advice is to keep it HOT, I work the stuff very close to, or at welding heat, there's no carbon to worry about, and you'll be much happier if you don't let it get cold, that's when it'll start to split and want to come apart.

Hope that helps!
