well on my way to work the other day i noticed that there was a fire and all the brush was burned. a little way down the road somthing was leaning up aggenst the fence. as i got closser i relized it was a bed to a waggen. there was a huge fat chain hanging off the back that had hug rings in it. i quickley jumped out and looked at the chain and to my shock relized the chain was completley hand forged and you could see the forged welded lines in it. so i grabed my hack saw out of my trunk and extracted the forgoten chain. then i saw some rod that was conecting the sides of the wagen there was 3 rods and each was over 8' long and around 1/2" around. i did a quick cut and broke a small section off and saw the awsome grain pattern of Wrought Iron. so i got everything i could. i now have probabley 75 pounds of Wrought Iron but i dont think i could have the heart to cut up the chain because its just so preity and a link to the past. so now my queston is how do i etch this to revieal the pattern. i got a gal of feric cloride for 30 bucks and i mixed it in a 4-1 and works good on carbon steel. but i etched the Wrought Iron and it seamed to just laught at the feric cloride. i left it in over night and got what looked like little tiny spots on the end of the rod. all i did was cut a small section off the rod and then filed it smouth and sanded it on the end, and put it in the etchent. any help with this would be great. ill post some pictures of my score

Try pounding the rod flat, filing/sanding that flat surface down, and giving it a long etch. The grain shows with the grain more than across it.
